    Pub after club?

Does every club go out to a pub/bar/watering hole after meeting? I have friends in other clubs that do this as well. I was wondering if it is something most fencers do.

Heh, I go home to the aspirin, the glucosamine-chondroitin, the ice pack, the heating pad...

Usually after a Wednesday night practice, we do. I generally skip them though so I can get some studying in.

Pub after fencing? Of course, I have been known to turn up late just to go to thepub.

That's a regular practice for the UH fencing club, though replace 'pub' with 'Wendy's' or 'mexican food'.

We do too. It'd be rude not to!

When I was at the UBCFC, we sometimes do that on big occassions like last practice before Xmas, summerholiday, etc.

Now that we are older and oneof us has a kid under 19 - the legal drinking age here in BC - we tend to go more for "All-you-can-eat" sushi (for CAD 10 per head) since some of us do not eat before practice. Of course we have beers while eating.

BTW, forget the Jpnese beers, they're as flavourful as American beers... Go for at least Cdn, if not German beers.

As I said in another post I am underage but we still go to a bar. The waitress just sets a pitcher of coke down on the table when I walk in.

Also this is one of my favorite parts of fencing, the comraderie. I enjoy sitting talking to all the other club members after fencing for a few hours.

Actually it is a requirement for U of Mich fencers..well quite frankly any michigan fencer to be toasted before any serious fencing may even be discussed.

A lot of the people at one of the clubs that I go to like to go to the pub after fencing. You can tell when they are in as there is a long line of soft drinks ordered at the bar - before anyone moves onto the stronger stuff. We also organised a discount scheme for members...

The Ann Arbor dueling society I go to on Thursday nights usually goes to the Old Town Tavern in Arbor, and Fridays the schoolcraft folks tend to go to Applebees. I like the tavern a bit better on average.

Our club goes to a local pizza place every Thursday after practice. It's always a good time, and since we're been doing it forever former fencers will sometimes show up to hang out.

When I was a Stanford we'd go to this place: the Dutch Goose, and play peanut races.

    Those were the good times...

Now that I am in France we pretty go out sometimes, though not as frequently. Sometimes it's a pizza place, sometimes it's just the bar across the street, and sometimes it's both...
    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

We made drinking an art form in our club. go to the bar after practice, before tournaments (epee and hangovers don't mix) and of course just because. but that got expensive so 2 of us just upped our homebrewing output and now we generally have our own drinking places and our own beer "Piste". We have taken to the saying we have a drinking team with a fencing problem. for the minors we make weekend trips to the "kool-aid bar" (they let in 18 and up) so everyone can participate.
