Array Fencing on t.v. show It seems the next episode of Life of Bonnie will have fencing in it. The commercial was very short but did show her in fencing garb. It's suppose to be airing this Friday on ABC (I think). -

Array Speaking of that, did you see the new commercial with Andie MacDowell? She's fencing foil a bit in a nifty little uniform and I think it was a makeup commercial. -

Array As it's a TV sitcom, one doubts it very much. -

Array Another note: was browsing through the America's Top Model website and it seems one of the contestants for the upcoming show lists Fencing as one of her "other activities". Here's the link. http://www.upn.com/shows/top_model2/bio_xiomara.shtml -

Array Lex fences in earlier episodes of Smallville (not sure about now). I only realized that when I was on the computer & hubby was watching the show. Just about broke my neck when I heard that all too familiar sound of blade hitting blade.
Isn't it a great sound? ::sigh:: "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Yep! I've seen that one. It was a makeup comercial. It is intersting on how fencing is becoming more and more popular. But it is good! -

Array I have seen it once... and that was sometime near midnight while watching a movie on TV with my brother... -

Array It was also shown once in ABC during the NFL wild card games. -

Array Oh gods not the Andie Mcdowell advert...
Personally - I think that it's rubbish, boring and derivative. If you want to see a good advert featuring fencing then try finding the Mercedes advert. It's great [and even the non-fencing sports look really great on it]. -

Array Gav, any mention of fencing on any commercial is a good thing for exposure of the sport.
Call it what you will, but any step towards more exposure for the sport, even baby steps, are progress.

Array 2 weeks ago, at the CNBC channel, I saw an ad featuring 2 epeeists. It was for some financial firm. I think it was Smith Barney. The forms of the fencers was correct but subdued. -

Array For those who have been around awhile, especially those in California. The 'Life with Bonnie' episode with the Fencing had some inside jokes.
The premise was that Bonnie was going to be getting some lessons in Sabre from the 'Fencing Dude'. That is an inside joke, because Sam (aka Purple Fencer) has some competition in another dealer in the area 'Fencing Dude'. The piano player on the show was being chased by a loan shark, who shows up at the studio and takes the place of the instructor. The loan shark was the Fencing Dude, Jr. himself.
Sam, if you didn't tape the show, I have it. For those who don't know Michael Desaro, Jr. has been on many national teams in Sabre and his father was on even more. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array Watched the show last night. As soon as I heard Bonnie Hunt utter the line "He prefers to be called 'The Fencing Dude'" I expected the instructor to be Jr.
The actual fencing, as expected, was wretched. Mike had to pretend he knew nothing about it, too, after all. But at least the equipment was correct, it was pointed out that it's "mask", not "helmet", and----it was SABRE! instead of the usual foil or epee.... -

Array I was flippig through the channels last night and on some show there was this guy who was in full uniform for fencing (except for mask). There was one MAJOR problem though. The guy was in an epee uniform but holding a sabre, and he was practicing leg touches... Oh well, at east they showed it... -

Array I was responding to one of these threads when I heard the unmistakable clanging of blades on the radio.
Yes, folks, CBC Radio did a 5-minute piece on "the World This Weekend" - 6 o'clock news - on the fencing scene in Winnipeg, Manitoba and interviewed their new coach Ayach Bounachada and this woman who started fencing at 50!

No other sport I know of makes that kind of a sound. Did any of yall know the Arnald Shw... (Don't know how to spell his name...). But anyways, the govenor of California... is a sabrist? I didn't know that. I think it pretty cool though... -

Array I'm not sure if he's still into fencing, but I think that he only did it for a movie role. btw, did you know that in the beginning, they had to dub his voice because his accent was so strong? Similar Threads -
