Array I should mention that I use a wet rag wrapped around the base of the blade to keep from drawing the temper. I've thought about brazing them, but with TIG welding I'm able to get a more localized heat and keep the overall heat input lower. Array Putting the blade into a vise will provide a heat sink that will oppose any effects on the blade due to the heating from welding or brazing.
I have also made the tang effectively longer by removing the shoulders at the blade to tang transition. I prefer cutting with a Dremel as opposed to just grinding as there is less heating of the blade. Could even be done with a hack saw. I usually finish with a hand file to get the profile the way I want it. Appropriate when you don't need much more than a quarter or half an inch of longer tang. Yes the blade is shorter, but not that much. Depends on whether you prefer to work on the blade or the grip. If you change the grip then every future blade you use with that grip may need adjusting, unless you use exterior hex pommels. Pick your poison, what's more convenient for you?

Array And before the latrine lawyers jump on Fencerbill, no, cutting the shoulder DOES not violate the rules! Only if you cut or file the blade in such a manner as it affects the flexibility will it violate the rules. -

What cutter size do you use? -

Array Hmmm for some reason or another I enjoy when the tang is trimmed, Or are you thinking about a different kind of tang -

Array How many hours of work are you willing to invest for the cost of a new blade? -

Array Hey Purple, I have this same problem. How much would it cost me to have you fix up one of my grips on your drill press? -

Let me know if you want to proceed so I can make sure you ship stuff to the correct address...and include all the parts I'll need. Similar Threads -
