| In all candour I have never quite understood the concept of fencing "teams" in the first place. It's an inherently individual sport as practiced today---add all the scoring quirks and such you want, it still comes down to one person vs another. Why not just drop out of this "team" and fence as an individual...and trounce all of these "lousy and childish" persons? |

| Its not the 'lousy teamamates' that are pulling down the score in a team event, but the lousy TEAM and guess what as a member of a team, if the team is lousy, so are you!!!
It is up to the whole TEAM to pull together and compete and win TOGETHER.
If you win your bouts and they lose theirs, you still lose, so do what is necessary to boost your teammates: team work, motivation, humour or whatever make it work. |

| But as Inquartata said, it is not a team sport. So she may be part of a "team", but in reality there is not much she can do. SO either stop fencing teams all together, or join a new club.

| Since she is in Singapore, she could have the coach cane any teammates who did not do well.
Although if you think about it, how would that be different than fencing sabre? |

| talk to your teammates, if they don't want to put in the effort, hit them a couple of times then ask again. Put the question this way "do you want to be good, or do you want to suck? Right now we suck." And if they don't want to be competitive, good luck finding a new team!

| Heck, if THAT fails, just try talking to your coach- All coaches want their fencers to do well and progress, so perhaps if your teamates get a kick in the pants from him, that'll provide enough motivation. Hope everything works out ok!

| This is what I did: quit
I was sick of my school coach and teammates so I quit, simple as that. I don't want to be in the position where we lose because they screw around again and again and don't listen to advice... simple advice like [Me: You do realise that counter-attacking doesn't give you right of way don't you? Them: UHUH UHUH I hit him UHUH UHUH Me: *sigh*] well something like that.
Anyway If it becomes frustrating to the point you don't enjoy fencing with them then don't.
I know this sounds really selfish and stuff but anyone who's been in this situation will understand what I'm talking about. Imagine putting in hours and hours of training in but your teammates do nothing and not only DON'T listen to you they also act like they're really good and stuff... BAH I'm rambling again.

| Well... There really isn't another option if you've already tried to train them and stuff. If they don't listen to you and clearly don't want to improve then theres no point trying again and again[In this case].

| I really hope you find new teammates because I know how annoying it is to have crappy teammates... True True I took the easy way out but ask yourself: What happens if they don't listen and you continue loosen bouts? What then?
