| Craig,
Great way to start the New Year.
I agree with the majority:
the new look is cleaner, etc.
I agree with Lee Yue Yang:
It'd be nice to have a floating menu.
Look at Leon Paul's menu, I find that helpful.
I also think it'd be helpful if you allow people to remove the menu when they feel like it...
Thank you for the improvement. It's so rare these days to see that the change is actually an improvement.
Keep up the great work.
Happy New Year.
PK
PS, I finally bought a digicam... so yuou know what that means... More fotos by moi in the Gallery... heh, heh, heh!

| I like it, the menu on the left just makes the screen a tad to large, and you have to side scroll to read posts. I agree with the idea of being able to close the menu at will, dunno how easy that would be though.

| How about a section on the menu for "Identified Trolls"?

| I'll check on font sizing. For the menu, that would take more work - you lost the menu with the old design too.
I'll mess around with the html for the links and see what I can come up with.
Re: Javascript. I'll look into that one also. It's probably just a missing relative link in the script.

| Great job Craig . The old one was good to, shy heidi did a fantastic job also so i am sad to see it go . But things have to change don't they? I only wish that i could use them both! That would be awesome!
KShan5[PrFC] How about a section on the menu for "Identified Trolls"?
Great idea too, but wouldn't they just keep changing their usernames?

| Man, I'm pretty much complete disagreement with everyone. I liked the smaller fonts. It lets more fit on the screen, and it looks nicer. Floating menu??? No, I personally hat these things. I think we should all have to take the time to scroll to the top of the page. Besides, I rarely see floating menus that work well. Plus, I don't think I have ever seen one that works cross-platform.

| Actually, I need to add some credits to the footer. The logo design (fencers) is hers. This layout/theme was created by someone else.

| Looks good! Much less cluttered. I would suggest eliminating the 'Sections' on the left bar of the home page as these are already covered in the 'Main Menu'. I kind of like the orange bullets though, so I would use those. I think the 'Main Menu' could be streamlined and organized a bit. Also, if you can implement it, I would suggest a menu system where when you put the cursor over a menu item, the submenu (if any) pops out to the right so one doesn't have to click through several menus to get to a desired location. For instance, holding the cursor over "Training Tips and Drills" would pull up the submenu
>General
>Footwork
>Stretching
>Tactical Theory
and then you could just click the page you wanted.
Just an idea. Also, how about a user customizable calendar? (by weapon, gender, event type, etc.). Something like the FIE has, or the nahouw site.
Cheers,
Epeecurean

| This is a really nice site. Lots of good info here. When people ask me about fencing, I direct them here, not the USFA site. (Wasn't there a nice "new qualifying paths to US nationals" document posted on the USFA site some time ago? They took that down, and hid it somewhere. I appreciate your hard work, Craig. Thank you.
I miss the larger type though. I also noticed that the google ads are about the other kind of fencing. Not sure when I am going to need deer repellant. Maybe Avril can advise us? |

| Hi!
Some random ideas:
1. Have a sub-board under "Water Cooler" called "Politics"
2. Transfer som threads to a folder called "Old Chestnuts" in the archive. This would cover USFA ratings, ROW discussions, and some other topics which soon turn into opinon-stating (and little more!).
3. Make it possible to mark some threads or folders as unintresting to the individual reader, so that that reader has a higher information/fluff ratio. Marked threads should not appear in searches.
Have a nice time!

| Thanks for the suggestions.
Peter - For the thread marking stuff, I'm not sure if this program (vBulletin) supports that. It may when 3.0 comes out in the next month or so. I'll check on it there.
As to moving the threads around - I just downloaded a backup of the forum database. A measly 275 MB of posts and other forum data. There are a lot of old threads to week through but I want to find and pull out the "good" stuff that is useful.
