| Anyone catch the segment on TechTV? Unfortunately (or perhaps not), TechTV isn't in my cable line up, but I noticed a listing for an segment about how technology is " making the art of fencing more exciting".
Assuming they aren't talking about putting up picket fences, did anyone catch or record the show? |

| Here's the description from the TechTV website.
Hot Topic: In Like Errol Flynn
The art of swordplay isn't just about going medieval. Serious fencers use electrical impulse sensors and special gear over their uniforms to see who was hit, as well as where and how. Lindsey Arent suits up and unsheathes with the latest in high-tech fencing gear, this weekend on "Tech Live."
It aired in SF on Saturday, 12/27, but I can't find an episode number or anything. |

| Hmmm. Sounds interesting. I get On Demand cable, and most of the TechTV programs are availible On Demand (I can watch whenever I want). When I get home I'll look and see if it's on there. If it is, it should have episode info, etc.

| I also hope they're not airing the fact that fencing uses an electrical sensing system that includes a spring-loaded button on the tip to register a hit (blah blah blah).
That'll make it sound like our 60 year old technology is bleeding edge.

| I know, EDEW. Am holding out hope that they might have a more novel spin on it, or at least show some interesting footage. |

| Saw it The TechTV thing was very short, and only at the very end of the show
.... (God bless Tivo-like technology, and the search function ...I just did a search for the word "Fencing" and got a listing of all shows that disucss fencing in the next 7 days, and set the machine to record....very cool)
ANYWAY, it was a very short spot on the fact that Fencers use electronic scoring now, and hey isn't it cool that the light lights up what a point is scored. All tolled it was a bout 4 min's, and not very deep. For those who are on this sort of board, it would be VERY basic info.
That was my impression, and I just posted to this forum the thread "Nebie" so I am probably the least Fenciing educated person here.

| Yea, I caught it too. It was pretty... dumb, for lack of a better word. It really briefly showed some fencers and said, "Oohh, look fencing uses electric scoring devices." Although, it failed to point out that this isn't a new thing.
To be honest,I've seen better more professional segments from my local news.
Overall - I was disappointed.

| Given what could have been, that sounds very disappointing. Wow, we use electronic scoring equipment?! Whouda thunk? |
