| Fencer of the year 2003 Escrime-Info, the French version of Fencing.net has a number of polls running right now to vote for fencer of the year in each weapon.
Take a look at this page, which has links to all the polls and current results: http://www.escrime-info.com/modules/...p?forum=28&347
and cast your vote! You can do so until January 7th.
In women's sabre and men's sabre, there are 2 American nominees.

| A bit biased for the French fencers, n'est-ce pas? In the men's foil list, they have Lepechoux, Coutant, Ferrari. None of them being as strong as some others not listed like Nassibouline, Or, and some of the Chinese fencers. They didn't list Attelly, though (or Boidin).
Haven't checked all of the categories, as the links seemed a bit slow to upload.

| The epee list is completely biased. No italians, none from Germany, where's Kardolus? Only one from Hungary. Sepulveda from Spain wasn't there. Where's Soren Thompson?

I'd have liked to see more foreign fencers.

Where's Soren Thompson? | There really wasn't much to say about the Italians and the Germans this year in individual events... They didn't do that well in the world championships, nor did they place high in the world cups. Kardolus could have made it into the list, I guess, if it wasn't for his behavior on the French national circuit tournaments... I think that's probably why they didn't shortlist him.
Soren's not well known in France, but he may make it into next year's list, who knows?

I personally didn't vote for French fencers all the time...

The choice was made to give a list of 10 fencers in each weapons :
- the 4 medallists during world championships
- the top 4 of World Cup
- as it is a french website, the french fencers who got a medal during European Championship
- and the choice was made to put at least 3 french fencers by weapon
In ME, Van Laecke should have been listed more than Kardolus, because he is far better than Kardolus when fencing in France. He won 2 French Nationals big tournaments this year, and a big one also in Germany. But the choice was to put European Championships medallists.

The only possible weak spot is their women's team epee.
I predict there will be an italian medalist in every event in the 2004 Olympics.
The Russians are strong in sabre and epee and women's foil, but their men's foil is iffy and their women's sabre is in a bit of a decline (my guesstimate).

| I really only pay attention to Men's foil, but I already bet to my fencing friend that Italy will take the team MF.

I guess 2003 was just a year for veterans... ;-)
