    Summer Nationals - qualification ?

If you qualify for any of the Vet events, can you fence Div II/III automatically?

Div II -- you have to place high enlough in the qualifying event to go.

Div III -- you only have to compete in the qualifying event, and can go even if you're dead last in a field of 100

Many divisions combine the two into a single event (SoCal does this), but the Div II/III qualifiers have nothing to do with vets events

Veterant -- you can go if you're over 40 and alive -- although, with someone like Donald Benge, I'd make sure he was breathing first!

Sam, that's incorrect. The qualifying event is the Div II qualifiers. All attendees who are of veteran age qualify to the veteran events (veterans who have a B or higher rating, and thus cannot compete in the Div II qualifiers must qualify through some other route: Senior sectionals, National points, whatever). All attendees who have a D or lower classification qualify for the Div III event.

You do NOT separate the veteran qualifiers from the Div II/III qualifier. They're one and the same. Again, if a veteran has a B or higher classification, then he or she will have to qualify via some other route to gain entry to the Summer Nationals.

As to the original question, if you qualify to the veteran events in the Summer Nationals, then NO, you do not automatically qualify to either the Div II or III events. The USFA website has a comprehensive listing of how to qualify to each event category.

    Eric;

i stand corrected. Thanks. I must've been thinking of NACs instead of Nats!

I DO, however, think it's an accurate description of the qual process for NAC...and since I'll be 40 in February....

There is no qualifications to compete in veteran NACs, AFAIK. However, I do believe you need to be 40 or older on Jan 1 of the calendar year. So, if you turn 40 in February (as I will), you still can't compete in veteran events until the following season. The USFA website states that to fence in the veterans events, your birthyear must be 1961 or earlier. That means next season's birthyear benchmark is 1962. Like you (presumably), my BY is 1963, so that means no-can-do until 2003-2004 season.

Hey, aren't you supposed to have logged off for a while? You didn't even make one week!

Anyway, as a security issue, I generally refrain from posting my birthdate on any openly accessible website. I encourage you (Sam) to edit your previous comment and delete the date. There's no need to post that information here.

And I was struggling to stay in college so I wouldn't end up hip deep in a rice paddy!

No, no, no, Zelda...the correct phrase (as I use it), is that you weren't even a leacherous gleam in your father's eye!

    heh.

Eric, I took your advice & edited it. I'll have to find out how close in birthdates we are if I see you at the All-Cals. Come by the table and laugh at my meager selection!

Sorry, can't go to the All-Cals. Have various local events to run, as well as scheduling the upcoming season's Bay Cup.

Let's just say that I'm older than you.
