I like the potential NOT to get nailed on a whipover.

Of course, I need to actually make the parry first!

Maybe it's just because I didn't fence that long in sabre before the new blades came down, but I don't even feel the weight difference. Someone with more experience most likely would, tho'

There are still whipovers, just less.

But I like them. I have never been hit on the back of the head when my opponent was using an S2000 blade. (knock on wood.)

    Well...since I have difficulty making a parry, I haven't felt less whipovers yet :P

However, given that the old minimum flexibility is now the max...I certainly HOPE you don't take a shot to the back of the head! Yeowch! It's bad enough with a whippy foil!

Having taken FAR too many head shots, I can report that I often smell smoke right after the hit. I have yet to see the fabled spark, though.

I'm sure it'll come soon enough.

I've been hit on the back of the head with an S2000 blade. I've also been hit in the back arm and even in the butt, for that matter. All it takes is an opponent who's in too deep. The blade also still bends when you cut. You can whip over to hand with an S2000 blade, but back of hand isn't target any more.

I liked the old blades not because of the whipover but because they were light. The extra torque of heavy blades when I take five or seconde is very hard on my elbow. Ao I buy the cheap BG blades, which are almost as light as the old ones but stiff enough. I find the new stiff blades parry even better because of the increased weight and stiffness, so my form has improved (I place the parry instead of forcing it).

    Nov shmoz ka pop.

Yea, those sparks can be nasty. I actually got hit in the eye with a spark, quite painful. I LOVE to parry with the s200, i just feel like im holding a shield and a cannon all in one.

Just did state championships on Saturday with the new blades, and I like'em. Although, I must admit, my parries didn't stop much on Sautrday, but no whipovers. I actually like the heavier feel. It's not much, barely noticable in fact. But, bottom line, they reduce whipovers, which I hated with a passion (as those who have been on this board for a while have seen).

As a side note, the solid hit with the flat of the blade, squarely into your tierce (which gives a steely BANG, and never would have been called in the hallowed "dry" days), no longer scores. It has always been bad form (not hitting with the edge), but now, at least, no one is rewarded for it. Ok, I'll get off the soapbox before I launch into a Dennis Miller-style rant.
