    Masks with washable liners

I'm just curious what folks that have tried these masks think and how important a feature this is. I've been using the masks at the club but of course they're soaked with disinfectant and really stink. I saw that many folks like Triplette and Uhlmann have removable washable liners in them of course for a few $$ extra.

It also occurred to me that depending on how they're done, the velcro or attachment could add bulk or discomfort.

What do you all think ?

    Ben

I have an allstar one which is pretty much the same as the uhlmann one and basically after you wear it down a bit it... say 2 hours of fencing it becomes really comfortable.

I have the triplette 1999 mask and I like it a lot. I've washed the bib several times now and it makes it so much better. As far as the velcro goes it doesn't add any discomfort for me, actually I don't even notice it.

This is a pretty good feature. I used to have a non detachable liner, and while you can wash your mask, it's just a little too complicated, and therefore you don't end up doing as often. Also the cleaning will not be as thorough as what you would have done in a washing machine.

It's just sooo comfortable to put that mask on after you've tossed the liner in the washing machine with your uniform. You feel like you have a brand new mask, it's fresh and clean.

I have a triplette 2000 FIE mask with a removeable bib and brow (lining only) which were made from a thin - and worthless - flannel material which I after a brief period. The good thing was the sewn-in velcro strips left behind which now hold in a better removable lining of my own making.

That said - there's no need to buy a purpose made mask with removeable lining. Just get some velcro and the fabric of your choice and make your own.

but then again I would whittle my own bicycle out of a fallen tree if I could....
