Array Barry,
What is the forge? If they are the infamous FL or FN, which had the FIE stamp, but were fakes made by a certain former 'Official Supplier to the FIE'.
If they are FS (Uhlmann), I haven't had the opportunity to try them, but I also would like to hear some first hand information. I'm glad you started this thread. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

I am not so sure that the France Lame blades were Fakes The problem is that with the present fatigue bending test you can get standard carbon blades to pass the specific test. By surface treating our standard Etoile blades we can extend their already long life such that individual blades can pass the F.I.E. test. However in real life such blades do not last as long as an equivalent margaing blades. Barry Paul M.D. Leon Paul -

Array I had two FL epee blades "fake FIE" blades. One broke after about three years, but the other is still taking abuse from my son. It has become too "soft" for me. I still have a brand new wired "fake FIE" FLN #2 blade.

I find it hard to believe 3 years. They were first certified in February of 2001 and they would have not been able to start selling until at least March. Maybe you are talking about one of the France Lame Blades. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array I'm talking about the FL blades not the 2-01 blades. I do have three 2-01 foil blades that my son uses, but I bought them about 6 months ago. I clarified my previous post. Thanks, Donald.

Array As I said above the France Lame Blades with a N were not FIE approved blades. The blades Barry is talking about are from Uhlman with an FS forge.
France Lame was Infamous for making use of the FIE label without the FIE approving the blades.
In fact there was one World Championship that had a number of 'Viniti' FIE blades. What was most interesting about these blades many were rusting and second the forge marks were identical with France Lame carbon steel blades.
If they are still around if you see a FN in a FIE shild or a FIE-N on a FL blade or a large FIE, be aware they are not FIE blades. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Easy mnemonic:
FIE-N = FIE - NOT! "I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."
