Congrats, brad(baker). Just noticed on the section site you were named(elected, drawn out of a hat, however the process goes) as the new section chairman. Congrats.
Out of curiousity, what are the responsibilities of the section chair? And how is he or she elected?
Once again, cool deal. We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal, and then leap in the dark to our success.

Array Elections are held at the annual meeting. Anyone there can nominate someone. If more than 2 people are nominated for a position there's a vote which eliminates all but the top 2 candidates, then there's a vote to elect one of those candidates to the office.
In this case the elected slate of officers were the only people nominated for the positions, so the voting part didn't really occur other than pro forma.
Duties of the Section Chair include running the section, making sure that the local organizers of the 3 sectional tournaments are staying on schedule and that we'll actually have things like venues for the events, etc. Running the sectional meetings.
I'm sure there's more, but the primary job is making sure that the people taking care of organizing the tournaments are doing so and helping make that happen if they aren't. Ideally everyone just does everything and the Chair just looks good. Worst case everything breaks down, the Chair ends up with a ton of work and looks bad. Fortunately we have both a good, large, experienced section, and a good set of other officers who will help make sure things go properly.

Hi Brad,
Congratulations from me also. You can count on the Aher family to pitch in wherever necessary.

Chris
