Array Fantasy Land Moving Just an announcement to respond to recent rumors.
Come sometime over the next 3 weeks, I will be moving FantasyLand to it's own site where the community and live and prosper or wither and die on it's own.
This is to happen in conjunction with an overall site relaunch for 2004.
I don't have all of the details worked out yet, but I'll post more migration information as I work it out. My goal is to transplant this into another area where it has the chance to grow as a writing and/or RPG site and devote more resources on the current boards to fencing.
Thanks,
Craig -

Array arcon,
I'll wait here for the public apology for "calling me out" when you know the accusation to be false.

Array It makes sense to give it it's own area at this point. "Growing pains", if you will. I certainly understand the need for more bandwith, etc. And it would certainly cut down on the naysayers.
How will it be run? By whom? I have many questions about the whole thing, being one of the first to take part in this rather unique arena. I have several ideas for resources, etc. for the writing set, having owned a writing group & writer's support center for a few years now. I'm sure others have ideas as well. Is it possible for other members of the group to voice their opinions? We all have a stake in this, so it would only be fair. Then, we can decide on the direction we're going to take & work out better guidelines.
Having Fantasy Land on its own site will allow Arconia to flourish. It will also allow for other writing (ad)ventures.
Of course, there HAS to be a link to the place that started it all...
It's an intriguing thought, & I like it. I'm very attached to Fantasy Land now, & I'd hate to see it just disappear.
Also, Craig...I need to speak to you privately. It's not bad. In fact, it's very good. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array Will there be a link on this site to the fantasy site?
(no offence intended to anyone) I'm Not for just closing this down completely. I'm fine with moving it. I agree Arconia is getting to big to sleep in a cradle so to speak. However I can't stay quiet when it's suggested to close down everything we've worked so hard to build.
Thanks for all you've done for us Craig! I can't speak for everyone else here because it's not my place. However, I personal really am greatfull for your keeping us here, and supporting our writing. It means a lot to me.

Array As a former heavy contributor to Fantasy Land/Arconia, I would like to take this opportunity to express my personal and extensive gratitude to Craig for all he's done.
I don't know how you, personally, have felt about all this. But whether it was bemused tolerance or outright enthusiasm, you held the door open for this benighted horde when your main focus always has been--and rightfully still remains--sport fencing.
Even now you provide avenues for us to continue on our merry way when the easiest course would simply be to shut it down. As fantasy writing actually has nothing to do with sport fencing, it would be understandable--if lamentable--were you simply to declare, "That's enough. You aren't my main business, and you're using up good bandwidth. You're evicted."
As a pursuer of both recreations, I can only say Thank You for your forbearance, you tolerance, and your understanding for the last three years. I have always held you in respect, and you continue to justify my good opinion. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Array change When I wrote the "Establishment of Arconia" in the (cooler) nearly
three years ago... I had no idea it would lead to fantasy land, last this long, then become material for a novel.(Thanks Moonitic)
From what i remember,we had a long drawn out battle just to survive. If you remember our first big story was Craigs imaginary kidnapping by(that other fencing site). We rescued him, brought him back and he made a place for us. We were estatic.
Thank you Craig. (will we pay rent on this new place?)
I think this change will be good. I, like Moonitic hope that there will be a fair and just way to discuss problems and have a better understanding between writers. That all writers may enjoy an atomosphere of cooperation and have the complete respect for their character, no matter what its position in the storylines.
On a personl note. I know that for some of you, Arcon has been a bitter pill to swallow sometimes. My passion for this place and my beliefs have lead me into some very hot places, to say the least.
Should a person apoligize for being themselves? Most of the time...no. Some of the time...yes. Ask Moon how many times ive told her(im sorry)and she has come back to us.
My point here, is this, if ive wronged anyone in an unjust manner,
let me say at this time...Im sorry. My passion for this place has been equated to antics. If youve seen it as antics, then this is for you.
Again, thanks Craig (now please read my last post in that thread i asked you about) ok?
Respectfully
submitted, Arcon

Array This pains me very much. You have no idea how convenient it was to have my favorite sport and creative writing on the same site. AND I JUST GOT HERE! goddammit this is so my luck I fear not death, for the sooner I die the longer I shall be immortal. -

Array Don't freak, you guys. It wouldn't be closed down completely. We wouldn't have to start over. Craig's a smart guy...he can get everything packed up & shipped over to our new place without too much trouble (smiling hopefully here). I'm sure there will be links to & from each location. We can't deny our heritage, & look how many fencers have become writers thanks to all this? I'm so proud of you guys. You've really become confident in your writing, & of course that pleases ME greatly.
Everything can & will work out. Just a little faith & patience is needed. K? "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array take it easy Thomas, Im sorry, man. Im not sure what the real reason for moving the site is. If its because of the recent problems we've had between a few of the writers, then im very sorry we couldnt work it out in a timely manner. I thought we were close.
Moon was very helpful and i believe if we had been able to convince Zelda and Craig then things may have worked out differently. I know that we stressed both of them with our problems. We have to trust that this is the best thing to do.
We unfortunately have no choice. Wait and see what kind of link we have. Everything will be fine.
take care

Array So... I'm a newbie to fantasy land, and I admit silimar feelings with Thomas. I mean... AGH, I JUST got here. On the other hand, if we can still have a site, still keep going, I can deal with that. I'd hate to see fantasy land go out completely.
To Craig, well, I've not been around to see it all. But I do appreciate that you made us a site when it looked like fantasy land was beginning. And anyone who'd do that for us, well, THANKS!
As to if we get moved, well, I hope we still "are", even if we "are not here".

Array I'd just like to echo everybody else here in singing the praises of Craig - like Lochinvar said, Craig, I already held you in high respect, and for the help and tolerance you have shown us here in Fantasy Land, I thank you, and have even more respect for you.
P.S. What effect will this have on our Arconian Independence Day (May 9th)? It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag. - Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC -

Array We'll definitely keep May 9th...we'll just need to name the new date something else. Hey, everyone! Time to start thinking up the name of a new holiday! Woohoo!
Sorry, I'm excited about this. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array Why not just Arconia Day? "Hail, hail Arconia, the land I didn't make up!"
Honestly, my first reaction to making a new holiday: Weddings! I love weddings! Drinks all 'round!
It could be a FAD! Free Arconia Day!
Crin I've got a theory. It could be bunnies.

Array First off: Hail Craig Maker of Websites, Blesser of Endeavors, and all around Good Guy.
Secondly, I've been thinking.... since we will have our own site, maybe we could have a little section for character bios and the like, sort of a 'character library' for when we need to do research to make sure we have our facts straight. It would save time required to verify/obtain information.
Just a thought. . . .did I mention I wanna thank Craig? "We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to understand." Hebrews 5:11 Similar Threads -
