Array Armorer's Handbook? Does there exist such a thing as an "official" armorer's handbook, like an engineering handbook, that comprehensively covers building, repairing, and troubleshooting weapons and other equipement? Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Array No, but Volkman's book (also included as an appendix in his "Magnum Libre d'Escrime") is fairly good. I gave my copy to my team after I bought the Big Book so I can't give you a definite title, but it's something like "Fencing Equipment - How it Works". Personally I'd recommending getting the Big Book, there's lots of other good information in there and it's worth the additional investment.

Array And don't forget : http://entertainment.howstuffworks.c...-equipment.htm
which although it doesn't have "how to repair" info does have clear and concise description of how the equipment works. -
Chris Green also has a book, which covers both personal equipment and reels. It's got color illustrations which are a tad more detailed than Rudy's. I can put you in touch with Chris if you're interested. I don't recall what his asking price is off the top of my head-- it's something in the range of $10-20.

Array I have just found another manual. I have not read it completely, it is 122 pages, but it looks good for Armorers and Organizers of Competitions. This is from our friends to the North. On the Canadian Fencing website Fencing.ca go to Member Area, then to Coaching Manuals, then Armourer and Competition Manual.
This appears very good for fixing equipment, and all that is involved with setting up a tournament. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

This appears very good for fixing equipment, and all that is involved with setting up a tournament. It's a very well done document, the only major flaw being that it pre-dates electric sabre. While it contains a very detailed, exploded diagram of the contact-post Allstar reels, it does lack a similar illustration for the Uhlmann reel, which is far more common in the U.S.
