    Training Camp in Montreal

    Hey Everyone,
I am going to a foil training camp near Montreal, held by Gilbert Gelinas, and he wanted me to post some info about it here because he doesn't log on (he hasn't seen the light )
It's from 8 PM on Friday (the 19th of December) until 3 PM sunday (the 21st). it's going to be held at Seignors de la Rive-Nord, which is in Blainville, about 20 minutes north of Montreal. There is going to be 2 guest coaches, both former Olympians from Canada, Julie Mahoney, and Tony Plourde. several of Gilberts best fencers will be thereincluding Alexis Landreville, who got 7th at the Junior NAC last year in Junior, Annie-Claude Therrien who tied for third at the Louisville World Cup this year. The cost for room and board for two nights, food, all day fencing with 2 lessons all comes to $100 american.
I've trained with Gilbert, he's a great coach. I swear his coaching advice helped me make the top 32 in Cadet at Overland Park. The atmosphere is awesome and all his fencers are really nice. I highly recommend it!!!!
You can call him at 450-437-0515 or email him at mgjesc@hotmail.com

any one know any good clubs up there
Would you rather have a giant ape always behind you and provoking you or have to shoot every single cashier you ever come in contact with in the head with a low powered bb gun?

Dynamiques de Brébeuf is a sabre club. And a damn good one at that.

Olympia Montréal is also a good club. OM is more foil and epee based.

And Les Seigneurs de la Rive-Nord in Blainville would be my third reccomendation.

SRN is a great club, they're better than OM in just about everything except men's foil. . .

I wasn't doing a best to worst ranking. I was just offering my opinion.

OM and SRN are both good clubs. SRN has the edge in sabre mainly because OM doesn't have sabre fencers. As for foil and epee I'd say they're about even.

    Regardless, both are good clubs.

What about Estoc and Bois de Boulogne. These clubs were really good in epee a couple of years ago...
    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

Estoc is in Quebec City, which is why I didn't include it. But Estoc is still strong in Epee.

Bouis de Boulogne is still around and has some strong fencers. But some of their fencers have retired. They're not what they once where.
