    Fencing in Florida

    Hi all,
I'm going to be in Florida for basically the entire month of April and wanted to know where the best places for epee and sabre are in the Orlando area. Any help or suggestions appreciated, thx.

whatever you do, if there is any election, even if it's to decide who wants to go out for ice cream cones...just stay out of it..and run away..DON'T GET INTO THAT MESS!

I don't really know where to fence in Orland, I was once there, and here's my advice.

    oiuyt,

You need to visit this site http://www.fencing.net/pages/clubs/maestro/indexx.html

You will want to contact Carlos Ablanedo, he is one of the instructors there and he teaches epee.

Where are you going to be? There are clubs in Tampa and Gainesville as well. I am in the Gainesville area and I know most of the clubs in central and north Florida.

If you are rated below a C, there is a tournament in Tampa on the 14th of April.

    Hi-
Kro- I'll be in Casselberry, an Orlando suburb. Re: the tournament on the 14th: ahh, THAT'S what they mean when they call it the D-Day tournament. I'm glad you mentioned it, I have B's in epee and sabre, but I'll still be able to fence foil anyway.
There's also "Fools of April" on the 7-8th. Is that opens? Do you happen to know the specific schedule of events?
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Here is what I found at the club's website. It was cancelled last year because the venue was being renovated. We have not had a tournament in the area since Feburary and that D-Under was a C event so this could be some good fencers there.

    **********************
    2001 Fools of April
Saturday and Sunday, April 7th and 8th, 2001 at the Englewood Neighborhood Center. The renovated facility is located on Lacosta Dr., just 1 block North of the interesection of SR 436 (Semoran Blvd.) and Curry Ford Rd., Orlando, FL.
Open event for all 3 weapons, plus D-Under Foil and juniors are scheduled. For more information, contact the Orlando Fencing Club at 407-345-2032
    ****************************

I just talked to the orginizer and he said pre-registration was not neccessary and the events are $16FW and $10 each event after that. This is the number of the orginizer 407.894.5519 Jim Burcham. The other number is for the club.

He could also get you much more information on clubs in the area. I told him someone was coming to the area that was interested in finding a club. Let him know that you are the person that talked with Tim.

    Hi saberwillie-
Unfortunately I go down on the 2nd. Well, not REALLY unfortunately seeing as how I'm coming from the Boston area and the Peabody World Cup, but ah well, you know what I mean.

    saberwillie,

UF had their tournament already, it was really good, they did a great job. Bill Becker and his fencers came up from Miami and the open foil was rated C and I think the Sabre was a C as well. I did not go back for the epee so I do not know how that turned out.
