I use jumprope as a suplement to my other fencing exercizes, as it's an excellent cardiovascular exercize. Three cheers for the heart and lungs! Hoorah! Hoorah! Hoorah!

Yes, jumping rope is a great thing to add to your list of exercises. Although I hate doing it. It's just soooo... boring. But, I do it anyway, as it's one of the best non-fencing exercises you can do.

My first coach used to tell us that the only real exercise equipment needed for fencing was a jump rope and a clothespin.

While I think quite a few others are also necessary, I think he hit upon the heart of fencing exercising.

I mix rope jumping into my footwork routines.

200 skips (various types)--five minutes of footwork, repeat 4-6 times.

Skipping rope is a great workout, but you have to be careful of the surface and length of the workout. I used to skip rope for 25 - 30 minutes at a clip on my basement floor and suffered plantar fascitis injuries in my feet on several occasions. Consider skipping rope on a soft surface and limiting the workout to 10 - 15 minutes. You cans supplement your aerobic workouts with other activities, such as biking or running.

I definitely think you shouldn't go over 15 minutes jumping rope. The longest time I ever did was 25 minutes. I remember I stopped because my joints started to really hurt.

I did a lot of skipping with a coach from Hungary. It's very useful. As for getting bored,we had little games where we compete to see who can skip the longest and so on.
As for time limit,I definitely agree that you should not go over 15 minutes.

IMHO skipping is the god of warm ups.

Heh, you should try it with a weighted jump rope. The first time I did that, I had to take a break after every 20 skips or so. Now I can go for many minutes at a time. Whee!
