Masks

I'm looking at a new mask for competetive fencing. I fence foil and a little epee. FIE Leon Paul foil/epee mask and the Uhlmann Leon Paul foil/epee mask. There's a $20 difference. Which do you think is better?

What is an uhlmann leon paul mask?

Whichever you go with, it's definetly worth investing in the FIE version. I would go with leon paul - I have a leon paul sabre mask and the countour fit system makes it incredibly comfortable. Also all the lining is adjustable.

An uhlmann mask? I'm not sure, but it's 20 dollars more. That's why I want to know which is best.

I know what an uhlmann mask is. I was asking about that.

I purchased a Leon Paul contour-fit FIE mask to replace a still-good Allstar FIE mask (essentially identical to Uhlmann) because I found the LP mask so comfortable when I tried one on. I have yet to find a reason to reconsider that decision.

I have an uhlmann I bought on ebay, new, and it's awsome It passes every punch like the punch was not even their and is comfortable and has the intimidating uhalmann logo.

You may take a little time to figure out the adjustment that's most comfortable for you when you first get it, but after that there's no need to fiddle with it.

The mesh is FIE homolgated, so it's amply strong-- people typically replace FIE masks because they get too ratty and disgusting in the interior, not because the mesh becomes too weak. Prieur's mesh is actually the strongest you'll find, although you will notice the weight and the lesser amount of light that get's through the mesh. Prieur, Leon Paul, and Uhlmann/Allstar are all reputable manufacturers, and I wouldn't worry about FIE mesh from any of them.
