My most memorable touche has to be the one that gave me my first DE victory in foil. I had been to three tournaments before that one and did not win a single DE.

The bout was nip and tuck all the way... my opponent came out of the gate with a 5-2 lead (I even removed my mask and saluted after his 5th touche, forgeting that it was 15-touche bout -- embarrassing). Then I lead 7-6, trailed 7-10, lead 11-10, trailed 11-12, lead 14-12. I was trying to finish him off with some feint-disengages, but he wasn't biting. Then I tried beat-attacks, and beat flicks. No dice. Somewhere in the middle of my frantic efforts to end the bout, he scored two more... tied 14-14. I settled down, and decided to wait for the opening rather than create one... I waited and waited... and then it happened... he telegraphed his attack... I caught him in a circle-six and lunged for the riposte... hit him dead center... TOUCHE!!!! BOUT 15-14!!!

It wasn't athletic, fancy, nor powerful. It didn't draw any oohs or aahs from the peanut gallery... just a simple well timed straight riposte after a well executed parry on a legitimate attack. But I will forever remember that moment, and the moments leading up to it.

It's funny, the nicest touches in fencing rarely elicit a reaction from a crowd. Only the dramatic, obvious touches do.

I was fencing for the gold in an epee competition. The score was 8-7 (my favor), beginning of the 2nd round. My opponent had been making fleches on me, and that was how he scored all of his touches. I was ready for it, so I thought.

At the command fence, he charged, caught me flat footed. I barely managed a parry, he got so close, I had no choice but to carry his blade above his head and riposte with flick to the back. The crowd oohed and aahed. I thought, man that was lucky, but he won't try that again.

Next touch, I moved him back and forth, and hit him with a beautiful straight lunge to the body. He was so unprepared that he didn't parry, move his feet, nothing. Deer in headlights. It was awesome. I celebrated, loudly. The crowd was very unimpressed.

That really showed me that fencing has some spectator issues.

attila is on a distinguished road
Fencing a slow lefty,he attacked my rigth flank I parried as he passed on my right, I jumped high and riposted between my legs and my some miracle of the alignment of the stars it landed on the stinkin lame. In epee at state games I was fleched by a really big fast guy and I opposed to the left as he went by and flick riposted onto his rear ankle.Of course when you pull off this kind of lucky hit you definetly pretend it is SKILL>>>>>>

Hey Rick, I completely agree. Some of the best most rewarding touches are just parrie and boom(the reposte)......did i spell reposte right?.................arcon

Really tough bout and we got down to 14-14. Last touch...I began to retreat right off the line to nearly the end of the strip, I stopped, she started the attack and I did an over-the-hand stop cut and jumped back, my front foot was barely on the line, but I was still in bounds. The touch landed, one light, I won the bout. When my coach found out he said he didn't know whether to congradulate me or kick my butt on such a risky move, but then he said to the whole class, "it is those with guts to do the unthinkable that win the bouts."

Dragoneye
Let's see, my most memorable hit....

It was an absolute fluke, I'm sure... but somehow, as the other guy lunged I managed to jump above it and tag him on the mask - much to his absolute shock We'd had a bit of a friendly 'competition' going between us, and this was the icing on the cake... tee hee.

Cheers,

Dragoneye.

My most memorable touch was at the Bourbon Open this year. I fenced a guy that was about 7 feet tall (I'm 5'4"). Somewhere in the middle of the bout we had an exchange that was attack-parry/riposte-parry/riposte-parry/riposte-parry/riposte-parry/riposte-land! In sabre!! I did a little victory dance after that one. He went on to beat me something like 15-6 but I felt I had done my best.
