finding a fencing club

i know. i know. there have probably already been tons of threads on this subject but oh well...
How do i know if a club is legitimate? i was going to join the same club a friend of mine fences at, but its too far away so im looking for one thats closer. Ive found a bunch of clubs near me but have no idea of how to figure out which ones are actually any good. is there anything at all you guys know of that would give me some idea of what the clubs are like?

I'd look at your division's web page and see if they post results and look at wether anyone is winning anything from the clubs you were looking at. If you see a lot of a particular club's fencers at the top thats usually a good sign.

It might help if you mentioned where you are. We can't advise you about specific clubs if we don't know where you are. Your other alternative is to go to each club for a night and see if you like it there.

Be aware that there is a difference between finding a club that is legitimate, and a club that is "any good".

Some clubs that totally suck are legitimate USFA clubs.

So keep that in mind. Legitimate USFA club does not necessarily equal good club for learning fencing.

How do you define legitimate? A coach who is certified through the coaches college? Results at tourneys? A club with happy fencers and a positive social atmosphere? One that pays its club dues to the USFA?

I think you should narrow down what you're looking for.
