| Dancing (particularly ballet) and fencing have many similar origins. I'm not very good on the history here, maybe somebody can help me out?
I don't envy dancers. My girlfriend was a ballerina in high school and she tells me that for years her toes were so bloody she couldn't wear normal shoes. |

| Hmm, graceful movements with a blade, or without....
I pick with, but I suppose not everyone needs to. Although if they don't I reserve the right to view them as insane. |

| the main difference between dancing and fencing is that while dancing only requires physical ability, fencing requires that and mental ability. not to say that dancers are stupid, not that at all. i took dance for almost 5 years when i was younger. what i mean when i say that fencing requires mental ability, is that you have to form strategies, and try to figure out what your opponent is going to do next/what you should do next. | did you seriously just join the forum so you can TRY to outwit/offend fencers? youre out of luck there. believe me ive seen some of these ppl argue and they'll be able to top whatever you say easily. i probably couldnt because i cant stand arguing with ppl, but others can. |

| If dancing makes you happy...go for it.
Fencing, & swordplay in general (I've gone to the "dark side"...stage combat!), is what makes me happy.
What is better for one person might not be "better" for another. Gimme a rapier any day!

| If according to you that fencing is simply "stabbing someone and even babies can do it", you're sorely misteaken AND have overlooked the sport- There's so much skill, techinique, and finesse involved in it that to just even learn the basic stuff well, it takes dedication; At any rate, its very difficult to become good within a short period of time- you need to drill repeititiously for as long as weeks or even months so its stored as muscle memory to be used as part of your instincts/natural reaction while bouting. Speaking of which, when youre fighting against someone, you have no control over what the opponent is going to do, so the outcome is all within your hands from the decisions, attacks, defence, ect. that YOU made. Likewise, just because anyone CAN stab their opponent DOES NOT mean that they WILL stab their opponent!
BTW, Dancing is a peice of cake in contrast to fencing- I know from being an Irish Step Dancer!

| Looking over the previous posts, I'm getting REALLY PISSED OFF- If you think that dancing is better in all means than fencing and you dont have any reasons to support your opinion from lack of experience, why the hell are you posting? No matter what, youre not going to change your mind since its obviously set in stone, so whats the point?

| Well I know that they are of different roots lol. But that sport fencing evovled to "looking" like ballet in many areas. But no one said "oh sword, lets do ballet with it." Fencing started from trainging for battle etc. Maybe Dancer5050 here englihten us to the historic roots of ballet?

I wonder what Dancer5050 would do if somebody "oh, sworded" him/her.... |

| Not quite. Have you ever seen a well-aimed high heel? My mom kicked her shoes off a little too hard one time at a party, nailed a full Colonel straight in the head, halfway across the room... |
