If the FIE 1600N are not stab-proof or stab resistent, then why are we wearing them?

Array Because the 1600N is rated for a button tip - that 1600N is to be spread out over a certain (if small) surface area. If you think about a sharpened tip, say of a knife, the surface area comes town to very, very close to zero. The same 1600N normally spread over the surface area of a button tip is now focused down to one tiny point. Once that penetrates, the fabric isn't nearly as resistant from the side, to a cutting action - so a sharpened edge has an easier time pushing the rest of the way in. It's the same way a man can stand on your foot and it hurts, but a small car's tire rolling over it may not. -

Array ...and I thought the 1600N is to stop the tip of a broken blade which is fairly close to a sharp point in some instances, not just a buttoned tip. Am I wrong in that assumption?
DHC Jr, are you there?

Array I thought broken blades could usually penetrate. -
