    Video Games?

Ok, I know there's a lot out there. Take someone who is new to Viideo games but will soon purchase their own system. What would you suggest? The system......why?......and what games would you suggest for someone who likes racing and shooting?

Hm, X-box seems to have the best set up for 1st person shooters. It also has some decent racing games but after I played Grand Tourismo I just can't really get into any other ones. PS2 is a better for RPG's, pussle, strategy, and fighting games. I have never really been found of thier shooters, too slow for my taste. Don't have a game cube and haven't played one much so I can't give you any info on that one. Do you have any other specific questions? That would make it easier.

PS2 and XBox both play DVDs, while Gamecube is about 80 bucks cheaper. All three have a pretty good line-up, but

Gamecube is geared mostly towards "family" games and multiplayer on the console, but you might miss out on a lot of game content without a Gameboy Advance. It has several games that are good for having 3 buddies over and killing a few hours (like Super Smash Brother or Mario Party).

X-Box is geared mostly towards its online play (Xbox LIVE!) and probably for a more "intense" gamer, and is built more like a computer. You don't need memory cards (built-in hard drive) but you DO need a special remote to play DVDs, plus the online service has a monthly fee. It is a more organized online service than PS2 though.

PS2 is usually the choice for a casual gamer. Usually if someone has to ask, I'd go with PS2. There's tons of games out there of every variety, and in spite of being the oldest by a year it's still going extremely strong. You have to buy memory cards to save games, but I haven't needed more than one, and you can play DVDs with your basic controller. It has mostly free online games but they're sometimes a hassle to set up.

A lot of the best games are multi-platform nowadays, so I'd just cruise through the aisles of a Best Buy or the like and decide which system has the games you most want to try.

I have a PS2 and now after awhile I wish I would have gotten the Xbox. The only reason is it seems the titles I'm interested in are only availible on the Xbox. The PS2 doesn't really have anything I'm interested in... Neither system has many multiplayer rpgs availible either which sucks. Both my wife and I enjoy playing together so if it's a multiplayer cooperative title it's a good thing

Try out Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. That kept my girlfriend and I busy for hours at a time (until we beat it). But don't worry, there's a sequel due out any time now.

Hey guys! Whats that game where you drive various vehicles through a course while trying to take out the opposing driver(and vehicle)? I know that you can shoot with machine gun, fire rockets
and do some sort of electrical freeze type destruction. Sorry about the strange description but i cant remember what its called in the game.

    Twisted Metal!!!

I don't relaly play many video games anymore... however, one computer game I still love and play from time to time is Jagged Alliance 2... decent plot, and fairly addicting... and it'll give you hours upon hours of gameplay... not bad for a 4 year old game... it still holds up with the best of them today, in my opinion.

I bought hubby a PS2, for the main fact that we already have a PS1 & the PS2 console plays those games.

Oh, yeah...& the fact that there are a couple of games I wanted available as PS2 games...shh! For the most part, I play on the computer. My favorite (call me crazy) is The Sims. There's also a cool one called Tropico 2: Pirate Cove. You create a whole piratical empire as a Pirate King/Queen. It's a blast!

I've only played the x-box once and I didn't like it that much. But that was before they redesigned their controller. They changed the buttons to be more like the PS2 and in my opinion user friendly. That one thing was my biggest problem with it. When I actually go out and buy a system though (instead of just using my boyfriends all the time) it will be a PS2. It has a great selection of games and I like the fact that I don't have to buy a remote to be able use the dvd player. I'm sorry but if you're going to have it built into the system I think it's lame to force people to shell out more money to be able to use it. Also, I did like the first person shooters on the PS2. Medal of Honor frontline was great as was SoCom. In the end though, it's really up to you. I would go and rent a few games that you're interested in and use a friend's system to see if you like it. That way you know if the game is fun and how the game play is different for each system.

Never played it on PS2, but The Sims is an awesome game! Maxis rules.

I'm trying to avoid buying The Sims for PS2. I already have most of the expansion packs (except for House Party & the new Makin' Magic), & next year The Sims 2 comes out. I don't want to totally give in to my addiction, you know.

Ah, now we did BG three times so far. We get bored every so often with the games on the pc's and we import and continue to level out chars in BG. I didn't know there was another coming out, but I'll be sure to get it.

We're also doing BGII: Shadows of Amn networked on the machines here and I thought of doing Neverwinter Nights also, but I'd like to get the expansion and play through that first...

I just don't have enough time...

Personally I own a Ninetendo 64, which IMHO is the way to go. But I have played on all the systems mentioned above and I must say I like the X-Box the best. The game selection is better in my opinion and I do like the controller set up. But I am only a casual gaer, so I am not the one to ask.

Hey the PS3 is coming down the pipe so you may want to wait until it comes out. The PS2s should come crashing down in price and the Xbox should come down in price as well.

As for which is best, well, the XBox has the best looking specs but it should be a combination of what the machine can do and the availability of the games. I remember when the Dreamcast came out it had one of the best engines out there at the time. But since there were no games available, it died a sordid but quiet death. (Yes, I have one.... sniff, sniff)

I used to be a hardcore gamer back in the day when serious gaming meant a cool computer. And now all I play is solitaire or free cell when I have a few minutes between client calls. Sad, very sad.
