Ambi French Grip Foil?

When I fenced in college, I used to use what I thought was an
ambidexterous French grip foil (rubber over metal, IIRC). After almost
ten years, I have gotten back into fencing, but I (still) can't find an
ambidexterous French grip foil to practice with (I've been looking
for a while, too). This brings up two questions I was hoping you
folks could help me with:

1) Does anyone know where any ambidexterous French grip foil can be
purchased?

2) If they aren't available, is it possible to use an ambidexterous
saber grip with a foil blade, foil guard, and foil pommel?

Just to clear things up: No, this wouldn't be used in tournaments
or anything like that. Thank you for any information you can impart
on the subject.

I don't see why you couldn't use a Sabre grip with a Foil blade and I do not
know of any reason why you couldn't use it in a tournament.

Or even make your own. I used to make my own sabre grips. Just drill a
hole through the length of a dowel and carve to suit. Cover any way
you like ( I used Shoe Goo for a rubberized surface ).

That's probably what they had, and just didn't know it, and NO, there's no
reason not to use it thusly, if that's what one wants to do...

However, while they do vary in geometry, I have never seen a 'french' grip
that didn't have contours in both planes, making eiher left-handed, or
right-handed...and I think it's fairly contrary to the concept.

One could, as pointed out, elsewhere, carve one's own!

Good Luck.
