Array Boxing I started boxing class Wednesday; there seem to be a fair number of similarities to fencing (similar stance, they use terms of 'en garde', 'parry', and 'bout', distance, etc.), but I can't really tell similarities/differences very well this early on. Anybody have any kinds of comments between boxing/fencing? -

Array I've used the similarities between the two sports many times when trying to describe fencing to an interested yet totally ignorant person. There are so many similarities with the feints, psycholgy, physical stamina, timing, stealing footwork, distance, the ref & etc.
That's why I enjoy a good boxing match so much. When you see a guy that is a boxer & obviously up on his game vs a bigger, faster, stronger guy thats just a slugger and the boxer destroys the slugger, that is cool.
My one very short experience with boxing gloves on made a believer out of me. One punch into my opponents sternum had him lying on his back. We looked at each other and immediately realized, " Hey! A guy could get hurt doing this! Lets go play with swords instead."
enjoy your new hobby and watch out for the straight jab. “General Feraud has made occasional attempts to kill me. That does not give him the right to claim my acquaintance.” Similar Threads -
