Bananas seem to be far more significant in fencing than do dates.
Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you!

They shared the only Team Gold medal. The U.S. and Cuba provided members for a combined Gold medal team.
Unless, of course, one considers the fact that there was a weapon in which they DIDN'T win the individual gold medal...

The US claimed 11 fencing medals at that Games, including a podium sweep in single sticks.

Next question is whether there were ANY fencers not from the US or Cuba at that Games (hosted in St. Louis).

I am not sure where you got your information, but it is not consistent with the information I got from the IOC web site.

    http://www.olympic.org/uk/athletes/r...earch_r_uk.asp

There were 14 medals awarded; 12 individuals and 2 Team. 9 of those individual medals were won by Cuba, including the single stick by Van Zo Post. In fact the U.S. won no Gold medals. They came second and third in single stick and 2nd in Sabre. In Foil Team and combined Cuba/U.S. team took Gold over the silver by a U.S. Team.

It is possible you got your infomation from Wikepedia, which since anyone can put down anything they want, it is not a reliable source.

For more on Van Zo Post's nationality, you might check these web sites.

I think I have found a worse web site than the USFA; the IOC.

It seems all the web sites above were getting information from the IOC web site. Van Zo Post is mentioned in this article on the USOC web site about Mariel.
