Congratulations India for winning the bid to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Your first Commonwealth Games should be a blast; and I hope to be there with many others! You put forth an excellent bid!
For Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
Best regards!
I can't wait to see what's in store for the Commonwealth in 2010!

Look for me! i'll be the one in the white outfit with the mask on!
Seriously though, I hope you will be competing and not trying to rekindle old flames. (Or both I guess is acceptable!!!! )

Like in all other games, fencing is rarely shown since the moves are to quick to pick up for TV. I would have to agree that watching fencing on TV is not that great. You have to appreciate it in person. (Therefore we are doomed never to have the media given to Football, Basketball, Baseball, etc....but that is a topic for another thread!)
And the Commonwealth Games are the successor to the British Empire Games. All Commonwealth countries are welcome to compete. There are I believe 70 in all. They are composed of colonies, realms, and countries with ties to HM The Queen. The Queen is the Head of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is a collective agreement between all it's members to work together to help it's developing members, as well as share in eachothers strengths, etc.....Economics is one very important part of it. Many countries such as Australia, Jamaica, India, Canada are members of the Commonwealth. (Pakistan was kicked out when the military overthrew the democratically elected President, and is just about to be let back in. South Africa was brought back in with the fall of Apartied.)
The Commonwealth Games is one part of the structure, which is held every four years like the Olympics. Not as big as the Olympics, but quite a large event nonetheless. The venues include many of the games in the Olympics but also have some other ones which arn't big "cash cows." Lawn Bowling, Field Hockey, etc. Fencing, Swimming, Rowing, Running, etc. are most definitely there. The games are also recognized by the IOC and you can obtain ratings to qualify for the Olympics in many events.
I guess you could compare them to the Pan-Am Games to get a rough idea of the set up.
Though the US does not compete, I'm sure you would find the games very interesting. Some of the best athletes the world has to offer are there.

Hate to blow any collective bubbles here, but fencing is NOT a Commonwealth Games event.
A seperate Commonwealth Fencing Championship is held every 4 years though...
2002 was in Newcastle Australia... Commonwealth Games were in Manchester UK
LOL @ Kodiak. No, I think I should have worded that as ex-boyfriends who live in India. Cyrnox11 - sometimes the champs are held @ the same time and place as the commonwealths (KL springs to mind).
Civil, maybe? I;d like to!
Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls!

I'm surprised no one mentioned that that map is innaccurate. It shows former British Imperial properties, not all of which are current Commonwealth member states, e.g. Iraq, the Eastern U.S.
