    PBT Blades

Does anyone know if PBT epees are any good?

PBT has some of the best blades I used. They are light and well balanced. I really like their French grips.

What about the other equipment they provide? They are the only supplier I know of that don't charge extra for a coloured mask.

    pbt blades

pbt blades are made in the Ukraine and Russia. They now sell the Lammet LM Blue, for 31,60 euros. It is Y shaped. It's Russian. It's blue. If you ask the Hungarian site, elender.hu they will give you large hi res pictures showing in particular the brand stamp. Cold war technology is Excellent I hear and the LM's are apparently durable, well balanced and FIE 2000 standard. There are other popular brands mentioned on forums and the medalists seem to like some of them, but LM Blue I think Is newish. Does anyone know?LM Blue

    Blades flexibility

How can pbt blades be considered durable and yet be stiff? Why is it maraging blades seem to be yellow?

Are the different types of PBTs different in flexibility and which is which, silver Ukrainians and Russian LM Blue ones?

I would say, that the PBT epee blades I had were the worst I've ever bought. Guards were way too weak too, I'm uncomfortable with guards that crumple tossing my fencing bag in my car.

Noone paid me to say anything, that is my opinion based on the two PBT complete epee's I ordered from their website. They were the standard, not the FIE ones.

The standard pbt blades seem to be the double wide fleche ones you get from blade. All in all a decent blade for a non-maraging one.

As for their other stuff, I have a mask, multiple bell guards and a couple of thier french grips and pommels. I have to say that their french grips are wonderful, the extra heft of the aluminium grips balance out the weapons rather well and their built in curve is great for pommeling (extra leverage). I was told by my coach that you intend to pommel with the grip, you should rotate the bell guard to the left handed position (I am righty) to cover a lot more of the exposed arm. Since you are pommeling the bend in the blade should cover the outside exposed arm. As for the bellguards? Yeah, they tend to be fragile and take dings easily (as do most alumium bells) but a hammer works out the dings pretty quickly. I have to say though I really like their epee wires, they tend to be a little less touchy than the uhlmann ones due to the fact that they lack that little plastic cup that holds the contact spring.

Speaking of points and wires, that was another of the sore points with the epee's I got from PBT. On one of the PBT epee's I got the screws popped out twice during my first seeding pool using the weapon, as well as having the wire pop out of the groove on the same weapon before I finished the pool. It was also the same PBT epee that the guard crushed on when I put my bag in my car trunk.

Well, I don't want to rag on PBT because they are really nice guys, but last year (December) I bought a BF maraging FIE epee blade from them. It was jinxed, I guess. Original wiring was bad, had to rewire. (I will give Gilbert credit, when I emailed them to tell them the story he offered to have me send it back to be rewired by them. I opted to do it myself, or, rather, have a club mate do it.) To make a long story short, it took 4 rewires to get it right. ( I think it may have been a little burr of metal under the threads at the tip, which may have been stripping off insulation when it was wired.) Finally got it working for a tournament two weekends ago. It worked the whole tournament. Then on Monday night of this week, as I attempted to straighten out a kink, very gently, it broke. Seems like I should have gotten more out of such an expensive blade. Maybe it was just a lemon.

I've never had any bad epirience with any of my PBT blades. In fact, my brother and I have ONLY PBT blades and none of them have ever broken. All the other guys at our club usually break a weapon every month or so, and NONE of theirs are PBT. As for their other equipment, I like it a lot. All of my family's equiptment is PBT come to think of it...

PBT=TCA=UHLMANN It's ALL BF blades. The NON-FIE blades by PBT are Dinamo from what i've seen. And one of my teammates had 3 or 4 of them and after about a year or so, all but one of them broke on the same week. Granted it was always on fleches but still. I don't know about PBT's BF Blades, but i know that the TCA BF FIE blades run a bit stiffer (I ASK for stiff-very stiff blades, but i know other people with tca blades that are stiffer w/o them requesting it). So i suppose it depends on your preference
