| White is so classically elegant, why would anyone want to wear anything else?
Besides, I think white would look supercool once we add Ice Fencing (with cleats) to the Winter Olympics. |

Why should they have more traction than we have now? (Anyone who has ever fenced on a dusty hardwood floor knows what I'm talking about...) |

| Actually, considering how much sliding happens in the normal course of events even on a "good" surface, I think cleats on ice would be a major disadvantage! Can anyone say, "Turned ankle while retreating?"

| We once showed up for a fencing practice only to find that the floors were in the process of being refinished. Apparently they were in the linseed oil stage, or whatever it is they use. We tried fencing and it was advance, slide three feet, retreat, slide three feet. Very much like trying to fence on ice.... |

| Colors Of Course some color would be good for clubs and schools, but it must be tempered from going over the top. |

| That's precisely the rock on which the conversation has foundered, Tomax--what's "over the top"? What's "tempered"?
For Inquartata and others of his ilk, any color creeping into the fencing world is merely the thin edge of complete anarchy, the first step on the slippery slope that leads to chaos and perdition. (Have I captured your position accurately, Inq? )
For those of us on the other side of the arguement, your statement seems to sum it up nicely, with the additional afirmation that there are enough competent and reasonable people in the sport that we will not allow fencing to plummet into the Slough of Tastelessness, as exemplified by the WWF or NASCAR.

As to your summary of my position, loch, you are a paragon of understatement, ahem! But close enough! |

| Not really. It's still one fencer against one fencer. A fencing "team" is an administrative unit only. |
