Array Ahem. "Hooah. It's an Army thing" And don't let your upperclassmen know you are calling youself a soldier. Being at the Air Force Academy it may be grounds for a concerted effort on your part to push Colorado away!
Good avatar, though!
Are your going to be part of the USAFA contingent in San Diego this weekend? If so, I'll see you there. Look for the Old Army guy! -
Hey, I resemble that remark. I don't think the Air Farce does a lot of push-ups.
Congrats on the avatar. Funny the things that seem important. Should you walk on the road less traveled, watch your step. -

Amen to that! They have finally figured out that most of the Air Force can't pass their "ergonometer bicylce" fitness test, even though most of the failures were as fit as anyone. So they have gone to the Army's pushup, sit up and run test. It's fun to watch all these guys trying to re-learn how to do this! The more things change......... -

Array As I pieced it together (I have an Army uncle), "hooah" was Air Force, and Army was more of a "hua".
Very glad the finally figured out the retarted bike test - one of the big indicators was the smokers who would actually score better if they had a cigarette right beforehand. They're definitely getting better about fitness in the general Air Force, too.
I stick by my screen name - I've had the basics in M-16 operation, bayonet combat, small infantry tactics, etc. Not saying I'm any kind of special forces, but I could handle myself on a battlefield if need be. I'm also not one for all the high-altitude bombing stuff; I'd prefer to get myself a Blackhawk.
I didn't know we had a contingent going to San Diego this weekend. You sure you're not thinking of the next weekend? I'm pretty sure we're headed for Albuque... whatever. This weekend.
As for the "Air Farce" not doing many pushups: There's plenty of things that make me not mind (and in fact use myself) the term "Air Farce", but we can hold our own. We did just kick West Point's *** (quite literally, if you consider their mascot) 31-3 two days ago. And our commandant here at the Academy could kick half the Army's asses alone.
A few years ago, the top graduate from Army's 101st Airborne school was an Academy cadet...girl...
Academy cadets routinely finish in the top in about every school they cross to - Marines' Bulldog program, Navy's mini-BUD/s, Army's Airborne and Air Assault programs, the Sandhurst military competition, you name it.
Oh, and our fencers kick ***, too. -
I do have to give you that. The Army team always sucks. What is that all about? I do have a lot of respect for the Air Force. Everytime I have to go somewhere to fight they give me a ride. It's like greyhound with cooler uniforms.
All jokes aside there have been more than a couple of my friends including me that have had our fat pulled out of the fire by some flier with a big bomb. I love the smell of napalm............ Should you walk on the road less traveled, watch your step. -

Array I've been contemplating trying to going back into the army (medical... couldn't pass basic at the time after shoulder surgeries...) how would I get into fencing once stationed? "The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is to parry, and riposte in return."

Or do they not have those in the AF? -

Heh, we had a member of our club try and get onto the "Army fencing team", the recruiter said "Yeah we'll get you on the team" never signed anything about it and nothing happened. DOn't count on it!!! Homestarrunner forever!~!

Array I'm not nearly good enough to get on the team... I was just wondering as far as somehow staying involved once stationed in whoknowswhere... "The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is to parry, and riposte in return."

Array From what I understand from relatives in the Marines, "hua" actually is an acronym for Heard, Understood, and Aknowleged. "Steady as a mountain, attack like fire, still as a wood, swift as the wind. In heaven and earth I alone am to be revered." -

The only athletic teams the services have are at the service academies. So, in response to almightynoitall, you'll want to just find a club near where you get stationed. Unless you'll be between 17 and 23 this summer, and then you could try the USMA. -

Array Originally posted by grphiw From what I understand from relatives in the Marines, "hua" actually is an acronym for Heard, Understood, and Aknowleged. The only problem with that is that the Marines say "Hooyah". Or is it "Hoorah"? Maybe that's SEALS instead.
When I was in the Army, "Hooah", like the black beret, was pretty much confined to the Rangers. See what inflation does? -
As far as the only athletic teams being at the academies. NO. I don't know of a fencing team but I do know we have westling, rugby, track, shooting, skiing, and a couple others I can't think of off hand. These teams compete at collegeate events and tournies within the services. Should you walk on the road less traveled, watch your step. -

Array There is fencing outside of the Academies. If you talk Navy and Marines, it is ONLY outside of the Anapolis, but they are trying to get fencing back into the Academy.
There is a Military National and World Championship and one of the requirements is that you are in the military, NOT a cadet. The U.S. does send a team to the Worlds and if you want to check on the National Championship, check the USFA web site, under 'Internet Links', then Military Fencing'.
