Array How To Wash A Washable Lame? I recently bought a SG Stainless Steel Foil Lame, which is washable. is there any special way to wash it, or just by hand with a bit of woolite and ammonia in a sink/tub? can you machine wash them? and, if you dont, will this make the lame last significantly longer? thanks for the help.

For starters, any lame is hand-washable, whether it's labelled as such or not, and routine washing will enhance the durability. Stainless lames are often labeled washable because water will not cause corrision, but even with copper lames sweat-salts left to build up will contribute to corrosion far, far more than the brief soaking in water when you wash it.
The only lame that comes close to being machine washable is the Infinity, and even then I'd probably stick to hand-washing just to be on the safe side. So, as you mentioned, Woolite/Ivory Snow & ammonia in a tub, gently agitate by hand (no wringing or creasing), then hang dry.

Array thanks Dave. i dont sweat much, hardly at all..i had my last lame for a year, and only a faint line of green showed along the collar..and this new lame i only use for tournaments, not for club fencing, then i keep it on a hanger when not in use..so how often do you suggest i should wash it?

It depends on how much you use it, how much you sweat, and how acidic your sweat is -- I'd say once a month is more than adequate for most people.
