Today starts the Jr. World Cup - Female saber at 11 a.m

Mariel Zagunis was strong in cuba at the Worlds - should do well here
Good luck to all!

rustica will become famous soon enough
I know that the final four included Marial, Becca Ward, Katy Thompson and Ameila Galliard. I also heard that this has once again turned into a Jr. NAC...fewer than 64 in the Women's sabre, and not many from out of the USA.

OK, thanks and good info. Just got the final 4 from Ray Hall, sports reporter from the Louisville Courier who covered the womens saber finals:
Zagunis - GOLD - Oregon Fencing Alliance - Korfanty's student
Thomson - SILVER - Oregon Fencing Alliance - "
Ward and Galliard shared the BRONZE - Ward is also from the OFA
Providenza - #5 also from the OFA (but now attending Notre Dame)

The surprise was Thomson beat Galliard (Nellya Fencers)! WOW! 15-13 . Thomson was behind until 10-10.
Heard Dagmar from NJ was in the final 8 - anybody heard anything more??

Ray Hall estimates apprx. 350 athletes are registered but didnt have any exact numbers or how many countries attended, expecting actual numbers from organizersin the a.m.

Congratulations to all!

I'm assuming Valerie was Amelia's victim and not Emily, since Emily is out in the quarter finals with Valerie.

Right?

Yes you are correct Edew. The knower of results was busy watching the tape of Survivor when I was trying to get it out of her and I was wrong. Should have turned off the tube.

Perhaps one of the things to consider for next year by the FIE and the organizers of this world cup is to not schedule this event at the same time than the European Junior Championships.

If the USFA wants to grow this world cup into an important one at the world level, it would allow fencers from Europe to not have to make a choice between the 2 competitions...
