Array Hi everyone I am new to these forums. And I really would like to take up fencing. This is a nice site. So where do I start? Do I find a school in the yellow pages or what? -

Array Put out your location or people can not make recomendations of particular clubs. You can check the USFA web site USFencing.org under 'Internet Links', then 'Clubs and Divisions'. The other place would be under 'Clubs' in this web site. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array Another thing you can do is tell us what area you're in and you might get some good recomendations for what club to go to from people in your area on here if there are any. -

Array You might contact Gary van der Wege, wedge@centurytel.net
who is Armorer in that area. He would be a good person to contact for good clubs. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array Thomas,
You are in a very good location to find some fencing clubs. The University of Texas has a fairly large club, their coach is Paul Schimelman (Sorry Paul, if I screwed up the spelling). There is ATAC in San Marcos with John Moreau, the past years National Epee champion, Round Rock Fencing Club with Gary Murray in, you guessed it, Round Rock, Austin Fencers Club with Eric Mallet, and Texas Fencers Academy with Ray Parker.
Pretty much each of these clubs has positives about them, and you are starting fencing at a time when it is really taking off in the Southwest Section (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi). 2 weekends ago, therewas a large tournament in Austin, the Longhorn, and the Masters will be held there (I would imagine) in the spring.
You can find out some more about pretty much all of these clubs by going to the United States Fencing Association's webpage at www.usfencing.org. Look under Info for Members > Where can I fence.
Hope this helped! -
