And we still HAVE an IRC for fencing.net.

Its hard to find people around, but if you go to www.fencing101.com/vb/chat you might have luck.

And I rather like the "/me" command.

She might get a 10, but you have to subtract 2 for that flash intro on her site. As for the bayonet socket, that's the camararri (sp). Add 1 for that.

    Click on fencing.
Be warned: this is a flash site, and each picture loads slooowly. Several seconds of fade-in and fade-out for each picture, and no thumbnails. Artsy-fartsy at its worst.

I wish I knew about some method to automatically disable flash so that all flash pictures were yurnrd into ordinary jpgs.

what you can do, is when the picture comes up that you want to save, you can click "print screen" (near the F12 button), then open up paint, and go to Edit > Paste. You'll see the whole screen, but you can crop the picture down to get just what you want, and then save it. It's a long route, but its the only way to (that i've found atleast) on flash sites.

ALT + PrintScreen captures only the active window. But these screen captures are usually crappy at best.
    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

    Amazon
Do you get out much to competitions?

Granted, there aren't too many super-models fencing in the UK... but most women are in fencing to fence, not to look good (since looking good in sweaty kit is a challenge even for Sylvia Gruchala...)

(thinks Amazon should post a picture... ).

I fenced in the UK. Didn't see a lack of attractive female fencers. I did see a lack of tournaments, but hey, go to the Welsh Open, and see what you can find if so inclined. Cardiff isnt that far from anywhere, really (not like in the US ). And there were... what, 77 women in epee at least last I was there. There are women a-plenty.

Oh LOTS of competitions: I do 7 large (ok, 60/70 in women's foil is large here...) national circuit opens in the UK each year. I also do various team competitions (5 Nations, inter-county, inter-regional). There are lots of other competitions (i.e. smaller opens and more local competitions) which I don't do.

Cardiff is definitely a good one to go to...

Hey, I was in Aberystwyth, so we didn't get down by, say, London much. Town-Gown and what not. It was mostly BUSA's for us. *muttering "Plymouth" and getting sick just remembering the drive*

But I have to laugh at anyone who says there aren't women, or attractive women, in fencing. There's lots of em!

Hhhmmm, Aber - could you have chosen a more isolated University in the whole of the UK? (Have been there once, and appreciate how badly connected it is to the rest of the country by road and rail...)

Don't suppose that Birmingham or Bristol are too bad from Aber (although nothing is good from Aber) - there are quite big opens at those two cities...

I just don't think Amazon gets out much.... either that, or he is unbelievably picky...

Ok, so I agree. Aber is pretty far from anything. But it sure was a nice semester abroad! I remember it taking a LONG (12 hours? by rail?) time to get there from Heathrow.

But we fenced 3 or 4 away matches with other universities (Plymouth being the longest drive), and Lampeter, Welsh Open... I think that was the extent.

But I think Amazon may just be too picky. Pity, the less for him!
