    Capture the Flag

I need some games to liven things up at practice. Anyone have some specific rules for fencing "capture the flag" or something else fun of that sort?

    ill try

I cant remember exactly how this games goes.....but basically
its like this. You have two teams spread out facing each other.
Its good if you have a gym for this.
Each person takes on an opponent one at a time. Your on the honor system to concede if your opponent touches you(youre killed and youre out) At each end of the court you have a fencer that guards your prize. A mask will work fine. Each fencers job is
to defend the prize in his or her respected location. As the numbers decrease and fencers are killed. The few remaining drop
back to defend the prize. Eventually it may come down to a 2 on 1 scenerio. This can really be fun.

    see ya

In my class, we have a drill where we split up the class kinda like this:
    (C1/2/1/2/1/2/1/2/1/2/1/2) *
    (C2/1/2/1/2/1/2/1/2/1/2/1) *

(ones opposite/next to twos) and have five terry towels/handkerchiefs where each * goes. The object is to (using the tip of your foil or epee only) pass/steal down the line the towels to the captain (C) at the end (Once it's on the captain's foil tip, it's scored and removed)... players can (and are encouraged to) try to 'capture' the other team's 'flags' on the way.
For large classes or groups... we add the rule that we go 3-5 rounds, and after every round, for every flag belonging to the other team you have, your captain gets to choose one member of the opposing team to sit out the next round/rest of the game. play ends when one team drops below 5 members, or when the predetermined # of rounds is over and the team with more members left wins.

It's kinda fun... and teaches you a lot about point control.

a variation of capture the flag is to have a "King" instead of a flag. If the king dies, game over. The king has restorative powers that allow him to bring dead fencers back to life with a touch of his hand. He has to stay in his "castle" and the dead fencers have to "walk" all the way back to be reanimated and continue the fight.

We used to play capture the flag with our beginners. We'd split into two teams, as usual. You can put advanced fencers in with the newbies, its good fun, and doesn't really help all that much. Anyway, we'd get a scarf, or a towel, or some such, for each team.

    Rules are as follows.

-You are not confined to one on one. You may all attack the same person at once, if you think you can do it.

-epee rules on touches- if you are hit, anywhere, you are out

-if there is any doubt, you are both out

-you want to capture their flag (but if you step on it, someone's got to wear your dirt home, so you're out)

-you may pick the flag up and bring it to the mediator. However, you may not run with it.

-if you "kill" everyone, you are the victor.
