school team

If you live in a state with other teams it might be easier. Contact a coach from another school team and ask them what is involved in having a team in your state. In NJ you must have all three weapons, in NY just one weapon. If you do not have high school teams in your state try aa after school fencing "club". The biggest problem with starting a team is cost, misunderstanding of what fencing is, space and someone to be your coach or advisor. Many athletic directors are unaware that fencing is a Division I NCAA sport. If your school allows it you can get over the cost part by having team members purchase some of their own equipment or have a booster club. GOOD LUCK!
