Our 5 medals to Guadeloupe's 15 medals. Swooshhh! Results en francais. When did Guadeluope get so deep?

It depends on the amount of interest from the US. Only 5 fencers attended and three medalled. On the other hand, Guadalupe is a French colony with products of the caliber of:

F. Jeannet - 2003 World Champion Men's Epee
J. Jeannet - 16th place in Cuba Men's Epee
Laura Flessel - former World Champion Women's Epee

Jeannet brothers came from Martinique and not from Guadalupe, ans so do Maureen Nisima and Loic Attely.
Laura Flessel comes from Guadalupe, and Ulrich Robeiri from French Guyana.

michel,
I appreciate the correction. For some reason the info about the Jeannets had stuck in my mind incorrectly. However, your post begs the question why is fencing so well developed in difficult economic circumstances? What are they doing right?

JEC:

You need someone like Robert Gara president of the fencing ligue de Guadaloupe, a relentless promoter of fencing who has not only assisted french ligues in the area but also countries like the Dominican Republic and others in starting and developing our sport.

Saludos
