Brown got some medals. Some fencers fenced well, some didn't. I didn't go because of injury, same for another fencer. It ended earlier than normal this year, which seems to suggest it was perhaps run better (last year it was awful).

I think that Brian Bower was running it, and he seems to have gotten to be pretty good at running a tight ship. The first year that Smith hosted it was a zoo. I think that we were there cleaning up until 10 or 11.

Is there a webpage on which full results will be posted? I quized a friend of mine about the sabre goings-on until she fell asleep, which wasnt too long a time and Im still curious.

Smith usually posts the full results, but I don't see any yet. The website has just been overhauled, which seems like a step in the right direction

    Back when I was the webmaster . . .

    Wow.
Who grabbed those spots, and do you know who won?

While I'm at it, might as well inquire: Does anyone know the makeup of the top 8 for mens and womens sabre? Thanks

Brad's got some partial UMass results up through the team website at:

    http://www.umass.edu/rso/fencing/

My best ever individual performance came ten years ago (1993) at The Big One, then held at Hampshire College.

I'm the grinning fool picture fifth from the left.

Ahhh.... back in the halcyon days of fleches and cross-overs ;-)

Uh... yeah, too hard to remember who did what. They gave out medals to top 8... hearing 8 medals x 6 weapons... 48 different names... yeah, sorry, don't remember enough.

The full results are usually sent to the coaches and posted on the NEIFC website ( http://www.geocities.com/neifc/ ).

I can't remember all the top 8 sabre slots, but here are a few.

MS: Simpson from Brandeis won over a teammate. Lieberman was 7th, Dorsky from Brown was in the 8, but not the final. There were at least 2 more Brandeis fencers in the 8 as well.

WS: Zouien from MIT won over Slemon from Brandeis. Morra from Brandeis tied for 3rd. Meyers from Umass came in 5th, I think. I'm also pretty sure there were 2 fencers from BC in the 8.

That's all I can remember for now. Hopefully, the results will be up soon.

Just to add to that a little. Dorsky finished third in MS.
In women's sabre, there was a girl from hampshire in the top 8 somewhere (7th, perhaps).

Uh... I can post more results if anyone else can somehow trigger my memory.

    Here are your results

Results are attached in a Zip file.

    Naming convention:
All files start with 110103(date) two letter event code (i.e. ME), the last letter denotes what is in the file P=pool results, R=ranking after pools, T=Tableaux, F=Final Results

    Any questions let me know.

Adam Blake and myself ran computers / assigned refs / got the competitions going.

Brain wandered around putting out fires (making second calls for people who didn't show up at strip with the wireless mic, etc.)

Aside from some schools not showing up until 10 minutes before the events were scheduled to start (and then getting mad at us when they didn't have time to warm up) everything went pretty much on schedule (Brian Bower created a wonderful schedule that will continue to be used in the future).

The fencing was done by 4:30.

All this with a record number of entrants (303) in six events.

Thank you Adam and Wayne for your help. With 303 entries, this was the largest Big One in my time. Your help made it possible to complete this tournament in a timely and organized fashion.

    Wow, DJ Apostrophe,

You did a great job at running that 6-event, 303-person tournament to get it done by 4:30 p.m.

It really helps when you have 26 strips to work with (almost) enough refs, and a wonderful schedule to work with.

But thank you, and I do feel a sense of accomplishment for running a tournament such as this... Adam and I are available to run your tournament ... if you would like
