Array Birmingham AL Regional Youth Circuit This is a last reminder about the deadline for entries to the Birmingham RYC. All entries must be postmarked by this Friday, October 31st. You can also send entry information by email, but by doing so you are making a commitment to attend. Please include age, birthday, weapon(s), rating. Forms and payment can be handled at the tournament. No changes will be allowed after October 31st. Here are all the tournament details: http://www.fencingclub.org/RYC1103.html
There are some rules and guidelines associated with the RYC, which apply to RYC events held around the country. A complete set of guidelines can be found on the USFA website, but the following items either provide clarification or new information. It must be understood that these are currently "guidelines" and not USFA or FIE rules. Several important decisions will be made over the next
1. The RYC is the ONLY path for Y10 and Y12 fencers wanting to compete in a NAC or at Summer Nationals. Y10 and Y12 fencers must fence in each weapon and age catagory at the RYC that they intend to fence at the Youth NAC or Summer Nationals in order to qualify.
2. RYC guidelines indicate that events should be combined with respect to gender. Practically speaking, our club and others will separate young men and women once there are adequate numbers to do so... 10 in the case of our RYC. Super Regional events (there are currently none in the Southeast) are separated by gender.
3. Currently, national points are awarded at Super Regional RYCs but may not be the case next year.
4. Decisions related to RYC events in the future will be made by the Regional Youth Circuit Subcommittee of the USFA Tournament Committee. The RYC program will continue to be an important part of our efforts to develop youth fencing around the country. You are encouraged to contact the Committee with any questions or suggestions, with me as your primary contact in the Southeast arias@fencingclub.org
The Birmingham RYC should be another terrific event for young fencers in the Southeast. Anyone who has been to our previous RYC events, or past North Carolina RYC tournaments, can attest to that.
So please register by mail or email ASAP before Friday's deadline!!!
