Clarification

I'm actually with the 10th Training Wing, at the Air Force Academy.

Didn't mean to be complaining - we've got things much better than any of the previous years ever did, and a lot better than any active duty deployed! I was just commenting on the [lack of] quality of the tents we were in for basic. Trust me, I'm quite glad for the three weeks we spent in our sub-standard tents when I think of the months you guys spend in your higher quality tents, but deployed wherever. I remember what dusty Jack's Valley was like in July, temperatures usually over 100, in BDUs - but then I think about you guys, in temperatures (as I've been reading) frequently 120+, in the sand dunes, frequently in chem gear.

Yeah, I pray for you guys every morning in church.

As for the Palestinians - if their leadership were required to live in tents with them, maybe things would improve a little faster. For that matter, why aren't our leaders required to file their own taxes?

One of the big pluses for Afghanistan over thekuwait/iraq are is the temp. Kabul was averageing about 90 when I got here. the big dessert was in the 116+ range.

The day I walked off the plane it was 2330. The guy at the bottom of the stairs yells out "welcome to the desert ground temp. is 140 degrees" it felt like breathing off of a hair dryer.
No Fun.

He Who Ignors History is Doomed!

I couldn't agree more! By understanding history, even fencers can join in the solution. Many fencers are going to school, taking classes and will effect the world once they graduate and move into jobs. The president may have fenced! Who knows! So fencers fence the world, not just themselves. Many people in the sport world believe they are somehow creating a sort of world-peace at the olympics. I don't think it has much impact.
If we only think of ourselves, and our next bout, or only our next competition and whether things will be Nice and Perfect for our next nationals, then we've lost. We have to show we care about the world, or we're doomed.

Nevertheless, you STILL may feel differently in January.

I live in a very hot part of the Southwest. All summer long people complain about the heat, and you hear variations on that same "you can always get warm" argument. Then by January the very same people are saying that they can't wait for the weather to warm up again...

Re: He Who Ignors History is Doomed!

I guess the world is doomed then, because thats exactly what I'll be thinking about.

Oh I am sure I won't enjoy Jan. and Feb. that much. The whole outdoor bathroom thing and the long walk to the showers will get old real fast in the cold. But I'll pass on the 120 any time.
