| Ottawa EXO It looks like EXO will be fielding close to 40 people at all levels of experience. I'll be there for my first time.
I hear there is nothing like it; fencing, drinking and more fencing! |

| This tournament is very good. I fenced in it every year when I was at West Point and the competition was good and it was a lot of fun.
GO ARMY FENCING!

| West Point won the trophy against RMC yet again, but it was much closer this year. It was a 45-44 win in women's sabre & a 45-43 win in men's epee that made the difference. The women's sabre team won gold as well. I don't remember the rest of the final placings for West Point, but I think men's foil made the top 8. |

| Other results EXO (Excalibur - University of Ottawa) took the cup for best overall result.
EXO took gold and silver in women's foil, gold in men's foil. They also took gold or silver in women's saber, and the rest I don't remember - there were some good parties and late nights too |

| Exo "A" won the gold, British combined the silver in WE.
Tough luck for my team - they were both in my pool. Once I watched them fence off for the gold, I was feeling much better about the scores my team came out of pools with. For a fairly young team, my girls did well, and hopefully learned a lot. a good time was had by all. |

| EXO won the following:
Gold in women's foil
Silver in women's foil
Bronze in men's epee
Gold in men's foil
Silver in women's sabre
Gold in women's epee
And yes -- they won the cup.
Very fun tournament. Long and quite late in a lot (if not all) of the events but still very fun and VERY educational. (Yes -- getting hit is a BAD thing) |

| There were some delays, but the organizers did their best to keep everyone up on what was going on. As they explained, the first delay on Saturday morning was due to a few teams failing to check in. As a result they had to re-plot the pools. The rest of the weekend, lists of teams were posted 10 min before they organized the pools.
The other, much shorter delays were all due to the usual tournament stuff (ie: lack of ref's, needing to wait until the blade which started before you had finished so both strips and judges were free, etc.). |

| That's true -- a fair amount of the teams did have to be re-registered. I know that for some of the EXO teams, some team members failed to show up so the teams had to be reformed and juggled around. (It was Halloween the night before and that event took its toll on the teams!)
Still, speaking as one who showed up before 7 am (and yes, I know that was stupid!), it was a heck of a long day.
I remember the Cdn Nationals at RMC earlier this summer and the delays there weren't really that much better. I guess one can expect such things at tournaments.
After all, as the saying goes...... "the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry"! |
