Problem with Body Cord

I'm relatively new to electric fencing, however this problem has stumped my armorer as well.

I have a brand new Uhlmann bayonet body cord. When I plug it into my new foil (with a Leon Paul socket) it sets off the off-target light. All the connections are tight. We can recreate it easily by pushing the bayonet side-to-side. It does the same thing, but less frequently and with more wiggling, in another foil with the same manufacturer's socket. It also does the same on another box.

When I plug in another body cord to my foil, no problem. So it doesn't appear to be the socket or the wiring, and my foil works fine with other cords. The only noticeable difference is that the Uhlmann spring seems to be weaker than on anyone elses bayonet.

I haven't had time to contact the vendor (mid-terms are due tomorrow) but if someone has a suggestion I'd like to hear it. I'm afraid that I'll have shipping costs back to the vendor, he won't be able to recreate the problem and he'll ship it back and I'll have to start all over, so I'd like to fix it myself.

Thanks,

small break in the wire, or a bad connection, both around the bayonet end

I've only heard of this problem, but what they say is it may be better to get a new one, as I haven't heard any solutions for it. Sorry.

What you need to do is open the body cord at the weapon end and check the connections. If those are fine, pull on the end and look/feel the wire nearby to see if there is a break. If there is a break, cut the wire above the break, strip it, and reassemble the body cord. Problem solved. If there is no break and the connections are solid, then you may need to clean the part of the body cord that goes into the socket or replace the body cord end.

It also helps to use an ohm meter while checking the connections and wire to see when there is a bad connection.

Well, I intend to get the ohm meter this weekend. As all the connections appear solid, my next alternative appears to be cutting the wires and reattaching them to the bayonet plug. Hope this works. At least things are slowing down at work and I'll have the time to check it out.

Thanks for all the info!
