[CFML] opposition quarte

I would like to ask for instruction on the proper way to move thru an
opposition parry in quarte. I use high septime and prime satisfactorily for
that line, but 4th I have trouble with. As I lift the hand rotating the
blade to the target I lose control of my opponents weapon. A step-by-step
list of hand sequence would be of great help. Thank you.

Re: [CFML] opposition quarte

Hi Mike--

Regarding that opposition quarte parry, have you tried starting the hand movement in full supination, then rotating the hand to half-supination (from fingers-up to basically thumb-up as you rotate the hand), moving the pommel toward the left a bit (for a RH Fencer), and catching the opponent's blade on the forte (strong) portion of your own, as much as possible. Try not to lift the hand too much, because you'll want a bit of angle in the parry. Your point should remain somewhat high, angled in direct line with the opponent's target area, and should remain there during that slight opposition 'push' that you need, so that you can quickly riposte once you've opened the target up. This should work with both a French and an Italian-type weapon. The Italian foil will probably provide a more robust parry for the amount of energy expended. Be prepared to defend laterally into sixte, however, if that incoming attack is a feint!

Hope that this has been of help to you.

Regards,
Warren Cabral
