What is the best age to start fencing?

Hello. I am 15 and I was wondering if that was an okay age to start fencing. I have heard of ten-year-olds and I know of other sports that start you off at three. How late am I really?

Your not late a good number of people that post here started much older than you and have achieved good results. I work with a college club where every year i get 15-30 college age students that want to try fencing. I also work with a few 6-8 year olds at the other club i fence with (same mental age makes this transition easier)

Depends on what your goals are. If you just want to learn how to fence, you can learn that at most any age. If you have Olympic dreams, you are only a tad late. But, you can always start now and with a good coach and school, you can go as far as you are able and as much as your parents can afford.

15 probably wouldn't be a bad time... just keep in mind that if your family has a history of multiple major growth spurts or you're still in one, it may be a little akward getting used to the motions, especially footwork, as, interestingly enough, sometimes the legs grow at different rates, making anything more complex then running a bit difficult (I learned to do a lot of salsa dancing then... that was tricky). Good luck starting though.

The best youth fencers I know started at around 8... I started at 15. It's never too late.

I 'started' at about 14 but it wasn't till I was 15 that i took fencing more seriously...

You should be fine if you work a bit
