Array It's hard to tell how big they're going to be unless you actually hold one in your hand before you buy it. -

Array somthing else Instead of exclusivly working on trying to use a zivkovich grip, Try using somthing else, I personally belgian grips on all my blades. So i recommend using a Belgian, Russian, German, French, Italian, English(if you can find one cus they stopped making them some time ago), or Hungarian Before you try using a Zivkovich. These grips are much more common than Zivkovich, with the exception of english and hungarian. Goiung to most meets or even in your club you will be able to try thse grips. -

Array Know anyone who does sand casting? Shape a grip out of any kind of clay, squeeze it in your hand, locate that stupid horn anywhere you want, cast it, drill, and paint it. Works for me. Recycle your old beer cans...I do.
Or call Zivkovic and talk to them about sizes.

Array Purchasing Is there an online retailer that sells the z type?
And about opinion - I've only ever used the z type a couple of times and I really liked it. It is true though, you have to manipulate the grip primarily with your fingers and have a very light grip. I could see a lot of people having trouble with the lack of a long tang to reinforce the wrist, but I have no problem with it. Also, these grips give you fine point control and stronger beats owing to the large surface to press your bottom fingers against. -

This takes a bit of practice, but I wouldn't trade my grip for anything now. I find myself using a Belgian normally, but if I'm across from a particularly tough opponent, I'll reach for the blade with the "Z" grip. I'm pretty much in the exact same camp. I have three weapons right now, really... a Z grip, a visconti, and a french grip. Z is my favorite... I don't clench my hand around it the whole time I'm fencing, though. Particularly, for starting flicks, small parries and deceives I have just my thumb and forefinger really touching the grip. When you need the power, you can kick your bottom fingers back into that broad, flat control surface and in-fight or do whatever. -

If you've used other Zivkovic grips, how does the Z compare? -
I looked at Zivkovic grips, they were all too small for me so I didnt get to try one in a bout. Some people at my club love them, however. -

Array I've used either a G or a B, I don't know exactly. It was a little too small- to the point of being painfull after a few bouts, but I would definately like to try the other ones to see what they are like.

I agree, they seem to be desighned to be held loosely in the fingertips, which is just the way I like to hold my grips. The one I used made the weapon like an extension of my hand- incredible fine point control, power when needed, and great range of motion because of the short tang. Array A friend of mine has Z grips on all of his epees... I found it interesting and asked him to borrow one of his weapons and try it. I think I'll never buy one of those grips... fencing with it was really irritating. I feel like I can't hold the weapon firmly, it's like my palm is sitting on an armchair rather than holding an epee. Point control goes totally astray because the hand is too open and the grip feels a lot weaker. I was really disappointed, but I guess that a lot of people will find it more comfortable and find their experiences with the grip quite the opposite of mine. -

Array Well, even though I don't like them, I still think it takes more than a one time test drive of any grip to get used to them. Finding the point when I switched over to Belgian grips took awhile, and my hand cramped up alot until it was used to the shape, but I imagine the same applies to Zivies. Only thing dirtier than a sabreist, is an epeeist in bed.
