| Drill suggestions? Hey everybody,
I fenced for a year, took a year off, and now I'm back into it again (yay!!). But I'm horribly out of condition, to say the least, and I forget tons of things. Ugh. Anyway, what I'm wondering is, do you guys recommend any specific drills or anything to help me remember and get back into it? Because right now, I feel like an idiot, seeing as I have a LOT to relearn. Oh, I fence Epee, by the way. So yeah, any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks guys! |

| First of all, I'm not a he. I am a she, thank you very much.
And stand? I think not. The people I fence against are brutally fast. At my club, epee is much more fast paced than foil. Hardly have time to think about what you're doing. So there. |

| I am a big fan of the timed footwork I usually start out like this 2 minutes of any proper footwork you want and do at least 15-20 lunges in that 2 minutes (about 1 every 6 sec. or so) as this becomes easier go to 2.5 then 3 minutes and so on. each time increase the number of lunges. it will help your endurance and your technique because you can work on the things you think you don't do well. I had ine fencer do 35 advace lunges in 4 minutes of footwork and her linking skills improved after only a week or 2 then she worked on jump lunge for a while. not neglecting the other techniques but focusing on the one she decided to work on for that time. |

| Well the jokingly true rule in our club is "I don't do drills, warm up, or stretch I fence epee"
but that is more out of laziness than anything else |

| I'll definitely do some timed drills (which I don't mind, because I am a drill junkie and LOVE doing drills, for some strange reason).
Thanks for the suggestions, everybody!
Oh, and broncofencer: I am an epeeist (as we all know by now), but I insist on stretching and doing drills. Woohoo! Go me! Anyway, I will go. |

| Kismet,
Currently with my students I have been recomended to teach footwork (lots!) and counterattack, and point control. So I will start with the hanging ball drill (string up a ball, and hit it w/the epee- hopefully while it is moving fairly quickly!). Aside from doing footwork, I am doing partner drills like this:
Fencer A- leading distance, blades in contact, opens a line
Fencer B- Hits line, correcting any distance (if need to lunge, ect)
Then,
A- leading distance, opens line
B- Attacks line
A- counterattacks to closer target then A is aiming for.
Then,
A- leading distance, opens line
B- attacks line
A- counter attacks to closer target
B- reposts with opposition.
Try them, they are a lot of fun!!
Good luck
Cheers,
B. |
