One of the clubs I practice with has for a while now used hard trance/happy hardcore music to teach tempo changes during line drills. Advances and retreats on the full beat, then we throw in a few on the half-beat. We've found it a good way to get newer students thinking about establishing patterns, then breaking them tempo-wise.
This training method has the added bonus of Pavlovian conditioning, in that now most of our fencers suddenly feel an overpowering urge to practice footwork when they hear electronica.
