    Weird question to ask here

    Since this is the only forum I visit, I'll ask you guys:

    Has anyone here heard of tire siping? Discount Tire has this 'feature'. What they do is slice little lines across your tire's tread. This is supposed to make the tire last long and have better traction. Are they full of bunk?

    This has been standard practice in the heavy truck industry for some time for the reasons given. I don't know if it translates to passenger auto practice, though.

    Yes, I've heard of siping- its common for winter tires here. My parents have used siped tires and said they were actually really nice (and we've always used studs on our cars before this). I haven't heard if they extend life, but I know they do help with the traction aspect.
