| Mensur pictures Hi all,
I am a British writer and I have just written a piece about the mensur in germany.
I am trying to find some decent pictures and I wonder if anyone knows of any good sources.
For any help I would be indebted.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Green

| I'd get in touch with Chris Amberger if I were you; his website is www.swordhistory.com, I believe there's some contact information there. |

| Try the BBC as well. They had a series in the 70's hosted by Bob Anderson about Fencing that also included Schlager fencing. It included footage from a drama production (I forget which) where a mensur was staged. One of the coaches at my club had it one video but he has now retired and I am not sure of his contact details. |

| Schlager fencing, popular among university societies, the point of which is the acquisition of facial scars. ( Vast oversimplification. ) |

| I have an old black and white picture of a young man after a mensur bout on my work computer. I'll have to see if I can find it and send it to you. He's sitting on a chair with blood all down the front of him, while his friends are around him. |

| For anyone who is interested, I posted the mensur picture in the photo section. If I remember correctly, I actually got it from someone here at fencing.net, but don't recall who it might have been. Can anyone tell me? |

| I gotta agree with you, Eric. I can't imagine anyone wanting to shed so much blood to be a member of ANY group! I can imagine his OTHER friends, asking, "WHAT were you THINKING?!?!?" |

| Mensur pictures Well, I have to say that I'm glad that pic is in B&W!! Please note also that his friends don't seem to show the marks of any previous bouting, but they are sure proud of scar face! Oh, the days before you had to glove up to handle bloody remnants.....

| Mensur fencing happened in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Don't think they had color film then.
And his compadres probably all had some scars of some sort. You just can't see them clearly because of the lack of resolution.

| Yes, yes. I am aware that polychromatic photography was not available in the 1800- early 1900's. Thanks.
