| Blues and Country have a lot of the same origins don't they? I believe if you look back several years you find that a lot of country stars and a lot of blues stars toed the same line.

| I do so enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean sdtk.
Techno=Death
Besides that my music tastes are pretty varied, from Outkast to Ani DiFranco to Frank Sinatra to Tori Amos to Springsteen to Zebda the Chieftans to 80s New Wave.
Yet, I would like to reiterate, Techno=Death.

| Why weren't blues or jazz on the poll? Those are the two types of music that are uniquely American in origin, and blues has had an influence on nearly all rock and pop music.
And no, blues and country music don't have the same origins. Blues was created in the south from field hollers by black slaves, with southern gospel music as an additional catalyst. Some artists, much later, like Elvis Presley, popularized blues by infusing uptempo country influences to create early rock and roll.

Others, I dunno---zydeco? And didn't heavy metal pretty much originate here?
As for blues and jazz, a good argument could be made that they had their real roots in Africa... |

They had influences from there, to be sure, but the catalyst of cross cultural musical influence that was available only here in the United States at that time was responsible for the creation of both blues and jazz.
Blues was born of slave field hollers (which included African rhythms and intonations) influenced by southern gopel music, while jazz grew from a mix of European harmonies and melodies, African rhythms, and Cajun folk music.
It is also interesting to note that from an early time, blues has had an influence on jazz, and to a lesser degree jazz has influenced the blues.

| "Call me a relic, call me what you will.
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill.
Today's music ain't got the same soul.
I like that old-time rock 'n roll."
That about sums it up. Give me Buddy Holly, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, etc.

| My style of music has actually shifted a bit..I'm now more in to the "Horror Rock" I guess you could call it...Blitzkid, Mister Monster, The EverDead, Calabrese, The Cryptkeeper Five, The Vladamirs..
I'm still into Danzig/Samhain, CKY, HIM and AFI though, though I'm finding I like the earlier AFI stuff more.
sooo..yeah...

| oh!! oh! oh! Very few people have talked about Celtic! Come on.. celtic rules! And I love the middle eastern, it's so moving, I love to dance to it. And definitely Indian (as in from India) I like some pop, I love rock, classical, opera, yes musicals. Was 'The Sound of Music' a real musical? Because I love that movie It makes me happy. And I hate rap, country gets too annoying as a whole. Heavy metal is just screaming to me, and it gives me a headache, but I'll listen to it if I have no choice (as in, at a friend's house). Rap is not music, it's people trying to convince you to do terrible things. Ick, I hate it. I like jazz, and big bands, but only in small amounts. I love a variety, and I love to change what I listen to all of the time.
Some of my favourite musicians are Clannad, Enya, Dido, Solas, Loreena, McKennitt, Flogging Molly, Apocalyptica, Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven, Green Day, Shakira, Norah Jones, Evanescence, Charlotte Church... hehe.

Celtic and Middle Eastern are great!
Well, in Hungary Sound of Music is performed as a musical, but here many movies are turned into musicals... Quote: |
